Probably a 'no' ... but I keep thinking about it, so I have to at least make a mention of the hope.
I wish there was a one time reincarnation for changing one's age to be younger for someone who isn't part of a family. I imagine it's frustrating if you find people you'd like to be family members but the ages are too close. And it wouldn't work to switch ages around once people are part of a family, because of the age differences needed with that. We can reincarnate different races, which has more of an effect than age does ... so why not age? (An answer other than coding difficulties or other coding priorities, though those are of course very legitimate and understandable! )
Personally, I'd just prefer to be more realistic and rpish about things ... Shorlen and Tsuki didn't meet until the 11th of Juliary in 114. Assuming anything could've happened between them right away and an 8-10 month Elfen gestation, the earliest possible date of birth for any child of theirs would be Avechary/Dvarsh/Tzarin 115. There are a few young Moondancers I'd consider having as children, and they're technically young enough for the coding but are 7-8 years too old for the realism Shorlen and I are going for.

It would be nice since we can adjust our age upon creation. I want a family, damnit.
Bau2005-08-19 11:34:42
It would be nice, wouldn't it? Bau could be 16 like she never was! *kidding* I imagine it'd be up or down that 13 year age range we get on creation, if such a thing were ever coded.

heh, place a fountain of life inside avechna, which is accessible
by touching the seal of life inside avechna, when you create
your character you have one chance to visit this fountain
you have one free reincarnation and one free visit to the fountains of life and death.
once inside the seal a person could drink from the fountain of life
which would take off a few years of life for every drink until they
leave the seal, after which they can't enter again.
if by some reason a person wants to grow older, place a fountain
of death behind the seal of death and have it add years
for every drink of that fountain.
if someone decides after they've visited a fountain they want to
change their age again they could buy an artifact like the
fruit of ages which after eating allows them to visit one of
the fountains again.

I don't think people should be able to make themselves older, simply because a greater age tends to be useful only in seeing how long people have been around. So someone who's older you know has been here longer and experienced more, as sort of a status mark. If you could just bump up your age, that's lost. Lowering your age (and I do agree that there should be some sort of range limit from where you start ... no more than 10 or so years down?) loses the 'status' of having been around longer.

However, that's not accurate in Lustenia. I joined during the first day Lusternia openned, but because I selected a younger age than some people upon character creation, people have mistaken me for being more fresh than say... Malicia.

But we get to choose between 16 and 29 (I think its 29) so ages having function of showing how long you were in the game are not nearly as effective. (Unless a line to say something like 'She exited the portal of fate that the age of 21' was added.) Age deosn't affect...well...anything except families.
I vote for fountain of youth!
Bau2005-08-19 16:36:44
Hurrah! I do like that idea.
Now, votes on whether it'll ever actually happen? *looks around expectantly*

I like the idea of being able to shift once along that 13 year span you were given at character creation. The reason to be older? So you can have kids who are older!

There should also be a limit on the number of sips you can take from the fountains. You don't want someone jumping 60 years up do you?

The idea was to only let people vary their starting age... retroactively. Once. So, you left the portal at age 19. You decide you want to be younger so you can have a specific person as your parent. So, you go back to the portal, tell the Fates you lied, you were really 16 when you went throught. They laugh, say they were waiting for you to realize that yourself, and you are suddenly three years younger. Or you want to be older, so you can have a certain person as a child. So, you tell the fates you were really 25, not 19, when you stepped through the Portal. Suddenly, you are six years older. *shrugs* Just an idea.

I think this would be a cool addition, assuming a number of restrictions are put in place:
1) You cannot go above age 29 using it.
2) You cannot go below age 16.
3) You cannot use the fountain after reaching 30 years of age.

I think that was kind of the idea, Guido.

Better idea, fix the lame family system. It's about the only thing I vehemently dislike in Lusternia. I mean, the Hall of Records will only recognize two siblings. How ridiculous is that? I can understand the 13 year gap for parents to children, but it's pathetic how the entire population is limited to one brother/sister at a maximum to come through the Portal of Fate.
Kayde2005-08-22 04:36:54
I agree with Ixion here and would refer you to my post about addding siblings to Families at http://lusternia.ire-community.com/index.p...61entry162061
Unknown2005-08-22 04:59:55
Mmm I have to agree about the sibling cap. Some limit should be placed on it, sure, but why such a low one? With the number of active players we have I hardly think we're risking an exponetial explosion of Great Houses by fixing up the sibling cap.
Three or four siblings sounds like a fair, thought still arbitrary, number.
EDIT: As convenient as it would be, I dislike the idea of being able to adjust your age. It's wierd enough being able to switch races, let alone being able to switch birthdays.

Ive never had a problem with the universe rearranging to suit someone (in lusternia anyway) because thats exactly what happens, someome appeals to the fates and they rewrite the tapestry to match the "correct" version.
Suhnaye2005-08-22 17:31:11
I absolutely adore this idea!!
But it should work regardless how old you are. Also, a line in honours -should- be added to show when it was you stepped through the portal of fate, and then just make it so your birthday is the only thing that changes, that way it -only- effects your ability to take on children or become a child of someone. When you choose to change your age, you are told the exact age you said you were upon going through the portal, and then you are given the option to change that, just as you did in character creation. That way if you make it so you came through the portal at an older age, that would show in your honours, and your true age would increase in accord with the portal exit increase, thereby keeping in line with how long you've been in the realm. Same for if you got younger. That would make it so as long as a person didn't come into the realm -before- the potential parent, they would both be able to shift their ages, and that would allow them to be taken as a child.
It should be a one time thing for every person, but there should be an artifact for multiple uses if say an old person really really wants to be the child of a much younger person and would need to shift their age a couple times to get theirs low enough.
As for coding, it doesn't seem terribly difficult, aside from a way to give the players the option, the base code to setting/resetting age already exists. RP-wise, telling the fates you made a mistake when you passed through the portals is the best way to do it.
I also agree that the sibling cap of 2 is too low, it should be more like 4.
