Hi guys,

I was thinking about this the other day.

I wonder if Lusternia could add some drugs to the alcohol and cactus weed categories. I know Achaea did that and got some press about the "Gleam" stuff.

In the game though, not many will take part in such substances unless they had a specific benefit. I guess that Achaea's gleam had too little benefit. However, I could see drugs and even addictive drugs working if they also had a game benefit, as well as a drawback to prevent them from being overused. (And maybe some are extracted from some process that would be anathmea to other characters based on creed).

Here are some examples of how they might work. You'd have to discuss balance issues, of course, but I could see this adding to RP.

Dreamdust: Extracted from Dreamers in Desert areas under a fullmoon, this substance is a potent hallucinogen that has a benefit to those in the dreamform.

Smoked. Non-Addictive

* Duration: As long as in dreamform (or asleep), plus 30 RT minutes.
* Benefits: Puts user to sleep immediately, dreamweavers either gain Extra WP or have WP costs reduced while in Dreamform, thus allowing them to stay in DF longer or do more things.
* Drawbacks: Effect is hallucinogenic to the waking mind. Suffers from Dementia, Hallucinations, and Daydreaming while awake, no ability to cure this until drug wears off.

Black Elixir

The orcs make this from some unknown substances, and sometimes use it in battle. It warms the blood and the mind and enrages the heart. Those that become addicted to it become thin-blooded and shiver.

Ingested. Addictive

* Duration: 30 RT Minutes.
* Benefits: +3 STR, Rage Effect.
* Drawbacks: -2 DEX, Incurable Deafness while in effect, Level 2 Vulnerability to Cold
* Withdrawal: Clumsiness and Shivering

Golden Aqua
Ingested. Non-Addictive.

Extracted from the bodies of Celstial beings, this illict drug is popular for those outside of Celest who wish to explore ocean depths.

* Duration: 30 Minutes
* Benefits: Can Swim and Breathe Underwater.
* Drawbacks: Level 3 Fire Vulnerability.

Brain Apples
Ingested. Addictive.

These are not "apples", but appear to be chunks of animal brain tissue rolled into balls and covered with some unknown ichor, rumoured to be the blood or ichor of fae creatures. They are in demand from psionics who seek to bost their own power, as well as those trying to boost their charismatic presence to others.

* Duration: 1 hour
* Benefits: Doubles Ego.
* Drawbacks: Chance for Random Mental Affliction every use of power or every 5 minutes.
* Withdrawal: Afflicted with Nacrolepsy, Inability to use "sixth sense" powers or communication power such as tells, channels, or anything except physical communication (says, yells, shouts, and the mail/news system).

I wasn't even thinking of the commodity aspect of the game, just something provided by the gods. But if there was a drugs skill, maybe it would be something like Apocathary or the like.

Again, these are ideas and it could be used to increase tensions, especially for substances. Do the trippin' dreamweavers in your city disgust you? Do you dare eat the beserker drug and risk becoming a cold-blooded addict? Do you risk the wrath of both communes to boost your Ego?

This is an interesting idea that I've thought about before, to maybe add more of a real world effect. Would it be able to be RPed though, or would it be a bunch of idiot newbies saying, "Whee, I love drugs!"?

Heh. Although I each ego battle might give you a random affliction or chance for one during ego battles, to be fair.

They can already do this with Alcohol and Cactus Weed.

I think if you make it something akin to this, it will be good.

* There is a huge tempting benefit.
* There is also a huge drawback and chance for addiction.
* Extracting the drugs might have a social effect or get you enemies. For instance, if K wanted the brain apples, he'd have to hunt fae. This could set off a city vs. commune battle. (Or at least an everybody vs. Magnagora one), since both communes need live fae.
* You'd have to make them rare enough to make them support an underground economy or the like, so there wouldn't be an enless supply, thus making the risk of addiction serious. Do we use brain apples in our next village battle, and risk becoming addicted because the supply is short. Do I risk taking the Dreamdust and then being somewhat helpless afterwards when I wake up?

It's under the withdrawal notes. Additionally, it might cause amnesia with addiction messages as well.

Add it to Poisons instead of Alchemy. Alchemists already have most of the golden apples and Poisonists have diddly. Make them all derived from animal venoms. There's something apt in the idea of these addictive drugs being "poisons" after all.

well, it could be added to the poisons skill, or maybe something alchemists could do with poisons like they do things with herbs, to make poisons more useful.
