Rhayni mentioned that having manse permission is silly if you can teleport/moonbeam into a manse. I agree, and it should be changed so that you cannot enter a manse by any means if you do not have the permission. Period.
Acrune2005-08-21 19:44:47
Agreed. At the very least, give the ability to kick people out of your manse, as has been suggested multiple times before.

No place is safe. Live with it. If you've a problem with Moonbeam, spend the 100cr on a gem of cloaking, and idle away.

Not having moonbeam, I can't really go test this.
Aren't manses each their own local area? Shouldn't moonbeam be nullified by manse privs as-is?

No, Xavius. On both counts, I think. It has to do with area files, server space, etcetera.
Ialie2005-08-21 20:16:38
Its safe as long as you don't have any moondancer enemies, so.. only moondancers have the ability to be safe in their manse?
Well Serens.
I think thats the problem really.

Then what's the point of having manse permissions? Also, a gem of cloaking does not ensure safety.
Unknown2005-08-21 20:54:48
Gem of cloaking hides you from WHO, so, chances are, they aren't gonna find you, unless they randomly check any HELP you're in, or send you tells w/out "tell" prefixed.
Manse permissions prevent normal access. What was the point of normal perms on homes back in Achaea?

Or they can just scry you from anywhere in the world.
It just seems silly to me to have such expensive 'homes' that you can't even be safe in.
Unknown2005-08-21 20:58:58
I don't know about Aetolia and Imperian, but homes in Achaea weren't 100% safe, either.
Vix2005-08-21 21:03:17
Very true. Everyone had access to the prism tattoo there whereas only two guilds can moonbeam. And was it some puppet skill that worked while they were on a monolith also?
Galatae2005-08-21 21:20:31
Achaean houses also had the options of totems to provide some defense in case someone did manage to prism in and jump you.

This isn't Achaea, first of all.
Second, finding someone with a gem can be pretty easy if you know that the person has a gem. Just scry. It doesn't take much effort to go onto the main website and see the player's online either. Gemmed people still show up as far as I know. You won't know their location, but all you need to do after you confirmed that they're online is to scry.

They changed that for bedrooms in Achaea. I think that would be a nice for manses in general. Or maybe something similar like that could be done with the beds in Lusternia. For those who aren't familiar with it, you can "enter" beds on Achaea and it turns into a sort of bedroom.

I believe Achaea has no means of transportation into the house that cannot be stopped by a monolith sigil. Safe for a vodun doll maybe, but that can be countered by other means. Moon beam cannot be stopped by anything, safe for running around. Seeing how fast moon beam is, there really isn't much chance to escape it by running unless you're ready to jump as soon as you see the message at all times. Somehow that seems wrong considering manses are supposed to be your private place for chilling out in.
To be honest, I don't see why this issue isn't fixed already. Either make manses be separate areas, or if that really eats up that much more resources (Can't quite believe it), just code a little snipped into the moon beam ability that makes it treat different manses as different areas... Survey knows which manse you are in too. *shrug* It's quite annoying the way it is right now.

This should really be fixed. I think it's an oversight that moonbeam can be used in this way, and if manses aren't altered to compensate, moonbeam will have to get nerfing, which it doesn't need.

Prism = moonbeam, as has been pointed out. So, yes, you could prism into houses. I think, anyway. I never used it.
I think it's fine the way it is now!
I doubt anyone goes to a manse just to see if someone is in their manse. They might go to a manse to see if there's anyone worth killing, but I just don't think Narsrim went to a manse with the sole purpose of finding Syrienne to kill her for what Nayl did. I imagine she was just the best glom target he saw, and was bored.
Stangmar2005-08-22 02:36:01
Ok, you've tried to point out reasons it doesn't hurt the game to moonbeam into somebody's private property. Now point out reasons it hurts the game not to be allowed to beam into somebody's private property.

Because than Narsrim can't avoid the avenger and randomly kill Gloms.
Stangmar2005-08-22 02:41:11
Oh yes, that hurts the game severely.
