Hello there everyone. I'm rather new at this so please forgive me should I blunder things up. That being said, let's dive right in!
So, I was looking at the different racial stats, and I've noticed that many races that tend to favor the forests are...well, let's face it, a LOT better off. Why is this? Does it work just to favor the "good side" or is it that their skill sets....lack and this is a way of saying "dude...sorry"? I've noticed that the different guilds/races must be on a certian type of land to use their skills, and this applies to just about everyone allowing for a more fair gameplay. I can understand humans not having many things going for them, so understandably there isn't many to go against them either. However look at the Faeling race, wow that's a ton of advantages, and what's this? Not a single disadvantage. Hmmm. This is also applied to the Elfen race, not a single disadvantage. At least the Furrikin are susceptible to fire as well as a few other races like the Trill, but then again the Trill are not really favored as a forestal race. Or is it all having to do with trying to equal out the stats?
To sum up, is this a... "yay you're part of the forest so have a helping hand, after all you're on the good side" or a... "since you're skills are very restricted to the forests, here's a way of saying sorry, but hang in there" Option three... "well, we screwed you over with the stats and uh, yeah sorry about that" Just wanting to see what I'm not seeing there! Thanks for listening and I look forward to some input!

Uhh...
The favored city races are merian/viscanti.
Both of which are very good in either of their specializations.

Everything's balanced 'cept Mugwumps. *nodme*
Shiri2005-08-29 01:19:51
You have to take statistics into account too. Faelings are a good race, granted, but they do have a disadvantage - such low constitution is a pain in the arse. Elfen aren't exactly an awesome race for guardians either. (Furrikin rock, though.)
Shamarah2005-08-29 01:21:04
Yeah. Just looking and seeing "hey, that race has a bunch of advantages and no disadvantages" doesn't really mean anything. Stats matter too. Plus, some of the advantages could be useless; and some of the disadvantages could be completely unimportant in most situations.

Aaaah. I think I'm starting to see this more clearly now. So not only are the skills and stats involved, it also depends on you're city, guild, and a lot of what you're actually doing as well yes? Example, you're skills are totally dependant on balance, so what does it matter if you have a level 2 equilibrium disadvantage? Right?

Something like that. A warrior won't care about -2 eq as much as a wiccan would, although it still has its effects.
EDIT: Also, a mugwumpi Aquamancer should never have to worry about their fire weakness, because they're the only guild with an even close to decent fire attack.
Shamarah2005-08-29 01:29:04
Right.
Or, say, cold vulnerability/resistance doesn't matter much, because the only player attacks that can do cold is Aquamancer hailstorm (and that's only half cold). The only time that would really matter is if you're bashing the catacombs. Similar case for psychic - very little does psychic damage and the little that does is generally a very small amount of damage.
On the other hand, having an extra point or two of intelligence for a mage, or strength for a knight, can make a very significant difference.

That's why we've such huge weaknesses and dodgy constitution, I suppose, to the two most common elements.
Ashteru2005-08-29 01:38:53
Yeah...try bash Astral as a Mugwump...

Actually geomancer blast is 100% fire, magical source, how much damage it'd do to a mugwump or other fire susceptible race is a different matter

Well, or spectres for cold, racial cold resistance level 1 does make a decent difference. Gorgog's would be fire. Really could probably find something that attacks to any racial susceptibility you might have as a race if you look hard enough
Shamarah2005-08-29 01:45:35
Yeah, but PvP is generally what you have to worry about when you're taking resistances/vulnerabilities into account.
EDIT: And who uses blast?

Blast and Cosmicfire are both 100% heat, so Aquamancers still get to worry...
And when Pyromancers (Fire) and Aeromancers (Lightning) are eventually released, Mugwumps are going to be feeling a whole ton of pain.

As opposed to now? Eep. I need to save for a dagger, then.

Magnagoran Viscanti make much, much better warriors than Serenwilde Elfen or Glomdoring Faelings, if you ask me, and New Celestian Merians make much, much better Magi and Guardians than Serenwilde Elfen Wiccans/Druids and Glomdoring Faeling Wiccans/Druids.
The races are, at the present, quite well balanced, with the city/commune specific races a bit better than others for their class.

Little known fact, Psychic resistances/weakness also effect things like psionics ego draining/sapping skills.

Ouch. Well, maybe it's only four guilds that stand no chance against one then.
