How do they compare. The stats look about the same to me or am I missing something? and with the sipping penalty it would seem that Loboshigaru would be a better choice. But I see much more Viscanti
Athalas2005-09-02 18:00:57
Brood viscanti have more strength and are tankier.
Melanchthon2005-09-02 18:13:14
The +2 strength on the Brood Viscanti is very good, as is their resistance to cutting and blunt damage. Although the constant level 3 health regeneration on the Loboshigaru is great, as an ur'Guard you'll often be inside of Taint, which will give you the same health regeneration as well as level 3 mana regen.

The better health sipping and the +1 int is really all the Loboshigaru has going for it, and the intelligence difference is somewhat offset by the tainted mana regeneration of the Viscanti. If you're choice is based purely on stats, I think the added strength and damage resistance of the Viscanti wins out against the Loboshigaru.

To put the sip difference in perspective, at level 50 the Loboshigaru will sip for about 381-508 health, while the Viscanti will sip for 304-406 health. You'll feel the difference, but I still feel the other benefits offset it.

Loboshigaru is an abysmally poor race. If you want to be even slightly good at fighting or bashing, choose something else.
Jack2005-09-02 23:16:29
Loboshigaru are awesome fighters for practically any class, but as a mage or guardian, they'll be sucky as hell for bashing. Particularly with int-based skills like cosmicfire or staffcast. (I don't think nightkiss is int-based, though, so a lobo Shadowdancer might work.)

I'd personally go for brood viscanti for all the reasons Melanchthon mentioned: overall, they're somewhat tankier, and they have the same regen in taint (which they practically always fight in), and better strength. Loboshigaru's slightly higher intelligence will give them a better surge (an ability which gives you more health, detracted from your overall mana), but only marginally better.

Ok thanks so Viscanti would be better than. Any other races out there good for a warrior class? using broadswords not so much rapiers.
Soll2005-09-02 23:22:25
Nightkiss is int based. I'm not sure why I keep hearing it isn't, but it really is.
Jack2005-09-02 23:23:15
Well, if you're going ur'Guard, the only real choices (at least to my mind) are orclach, viscanti, lobo or aslaran.

Aslaran are far from tanky or strong, but have both balance/eq pluses, which means they hit for less but faster. Plus, they're smart, which means a good surge. Orclach are dumb as bricks, but almost as strong as viscanti, and have awesome resistances. However they both have a heavy weakness to fire, which means cosmicfire and - particularly - aquamancer staff does a hell of a lot of damage.

EDIT: Okay, so a lobo SD would suck, then. ... Well, maybe not, actually. Nayl didn't do so bad.

For awesome resistances, see of Tae'dae. drool.gif
Jack2005-09-02 23:27:06
Tae'dae balance sucks, though. They'll hit you for awesome damage.. oh, every five minutes or so. Plus they have a weakness to magic.

Tae'dae ur'Guard VS Mugwump Moondancer = pain for tae'dae. ninja.gif

Viscanti is a specialized race. So unless you're going to specialize into a Brood or High Viscanti, there's no point in picking it over Loboshigaru. And the Serenguard have had two very high level Loboshigaru, both in the 80's at least. Their high con, insane regeneration, more than average strength, and high dex mean they'll be apt for bashing or fighting. Just don't expect to be able to use Transmute or Surge as effectively as a high Int race.
Jack2005-09-02 23:28:39
Ah, yeah, loboshigaru have very high dexterity, too. This means they'll have better overall wounding than a brood viscanti, and they'll also be able to parry/stance better.

It is int based, however, when I tested my damage change from 10 Int to 12 Int, it was oh.... 27 odd damage, extra.
Alger2005-09-05 07:34:38
Try not to pick a magic vulnerable race if you're planning to join Mag and be active in PK because you have two high magic based damage skills on the opposing team. Radiance and Moonburst. You'll also be fighting aquamancers which means fire/cold damage.
Thorgal2005-09-07 00:12:59
Nightkiss is only intelligence based against denizens, not players.. if you have 7 INT, you'll do maybe 30 damage less than if you'd have 25 INT.

But for bashing it does play a big role, sadly.
Unknown2005-09-07 01:28:38
Good warrior races include orclach, tae'dae, krokani, aslaran, igasho, taurian, all the specializations, and maybe dracnari. You've got a lot of options, some better than others, depending on whether you prefer to be a killing machine or a pure tank.

Humans are -great- warriors at high levels.
Unknown2005-09-07 03:35:57
Why's that? How much strength do they have in the 90's with evolution?
