I saw Kalo and Richter talk about it on the balance forum in the General Board, so I decided to dedicate a topic to it here. I've recently gotten readdicted, and a few of us have played some pretty good games.

Wow. I noticed that too now that you mention it. I think Gae meant RTS.

Real-Time Strategy. RPS is like... rectal possession syndrom.

I enjoy Starcraft more at the moment, partially because it's a classic, and partially because I didn't really enjoy leveling heros -and- trying to build a base at the same time.

I've just recently gotten into Warcraft 3, and while I'm finding story mode very good, I didn't like the game I played online.

Admittedly, it was only one game, it was against Dooksta who kicked my newbie butt, and I've only gotten most of the way through the second campagin.

And WC3 > Starcraft. But they both kick.

Starcraft is more strategical and is currently balanced. Wc3 on the other hand..is not. That is the current key difference. SC will always be the top of tops until this trend is broken. I have done really good in both, I think I prefer wc3 just because me and my buddy could do AT 2vs2 and not have to worry about finding a non bgh map(Made it under rank 30 on useast!) The other thing is the customs , obviously wc3 has the more advanced engine for that. But once again it comes down to balance. SC takes it there. Campaigns are no question, WC3 all the way.

EDIT: Also they are completely different styles, Wc3 is micro over mass(Clicking units, moving weak back, using abilities ect and being able to multi task where as SC is more mass and move.

I prefer WC3. I'm better at micro over mass.

Oh, thanks for bringing up those memories of SC. I never was REALY good at it, but I loved it so. I liked how just about every unit was genuinly useful (even those silly vultures, though gods help you if you had lag). I also liked how, once you got past the average-skilled level and can get around reaver drops and carrier rushes, the game grew complex and detailed.

I would probably be playing it now if it weren't for Lusternia taking all my play time (same goes for Sims 2, for the record )

I suck at RTS in general. On the basis that I find it prettier, WC3 > SC. Not that I actually own WC3 to realistictly compare.

Vultures are SO NOWHERE NEAR USELESS. Once Spider Mines are researched, I'd easily pay like, 200 minerals for the three spider mines alone, not even including the Vult!

I Starcraft, and I sucked at WC3, mainly cuz I'm not too good at coordinating the leveing and all that, etc etc... I prefer to build en-masse, position troops and stuff... Always prefered SC with mass minerals, but I did alright in ladders... Liked bein able to set up a huge ass base with Protoss and sit behind two lines of P-cannons and watch terrans try to eat away at em with nukes... I'd just laugh and send arbiters out to start warping all kinds a bad things... I'd lose sometimes, but it was always fun

Dow > Starcraft > Everything > WC3.
