I don't really mind debating too much, though I wish it was more of a skill-based conflict than luck-based. However, could being debated out make the chant thing not work? Only 1-2 chanters really count, and the second counts very little. It was more the constant running away that helped.

No no, I have no problem with what Marsu did, he was very good at debating against everyone. Well, at standing there and taking debate attacks, anyway.

The problem is that chanters allow even someone who is debating to be able to stay at full ego for divert, and also that the system for offensive debating allows your target to sustain 26 successful hits, but fail 9 times and you're dead.

Since hitting the wrong mindset is basically like a knight hitting rebounding, and the other two mindsets corresponding to a hit and a miss, maybe what we need is influence abilities analagous to the ones that let knights still be effective. Ie, a very fast ability that forces a particular mindset before you debate, or a slower debating style that bypasses mindsets. Maybe a higher level in the Influence skillset means that 'misses' or weak hits do more ego damage.
