Ok, having reached the limit for displayed items, I wonder if it would be possible to firstly notify a shopper that some items weren't displayed, and secondly have a command to show the next 300 (or whatever it is) items.

So for instance...

CODE

> WARES
Proprietor: Forest Empath Elryn, Keeper of Avaerin.
--------(Item)-------(Description)----------------------------(Stock)-(Price)-
The shop attendant smiles warmly, showing that you are especially welcome.
*** Prices reflect a discount: -15% for Greythanes members *
   painting21221: a painting of a corner of the Gloriana Fores    1 849999gp

<...>

     orchid50462: a striped orchid                                3 85gp
       rose78004: a midnight black rose                           5 85gp
Additional items for sale were not displayed. To continue browsing, use "WARES 2".

Then WARES 2 would give a wares output including items 301-600. And so on. Because although you can use WARES (item) to see all the items of a particular type available, most people just use WARES and will never notice there is more.

Then you could go to WARES 3 and WARES 4, etc.

One other thing... how can bookbinders use shops?

BOOKBIND BOOK FOR SHOP?

And then when a book is purchased it gets set to the purchaser?

We can't.

It'd be nice if we could do that, actually. Or if we could make undefined books, and they're set as loyal to the first person to seal them...
Sylphas2005-09-12 04:16:10
How would that work for orgs?
Unknown2005-09-12 04:30:11
Orgs can just get the regular custom made books.

Bad idea - remember that you can sell books with stuff in them biggrin.gif
Unknown2005-09-12 07:22:30
Aye, why is that a bad idea though?
Shiri2005-09-12 07:23:32

Oh, I meant just making books sold in shops bind to their buyer is a bad idea - there should be a diffence between books sold for the stuff in them and books sold to be written in. *shrugs*

Books sold to be written in wouldn't have an owner and would have some way to have it claimed after buying, books being sold for whats in them would already have an owner

Exactly like purchased journals in Achaea?
Richter2005-09-12 17:48:36
Back on topic please.

And I like the idea, I hate the fact people can't see what I'm selling, unless they look JUST for one item. It screws me for the customers that browse and buy whatever.
Unknown2005-09-12 19:34:43
I don't like that shops can have so many items in them. You get the benefit of being a master shopkeeper with bins and pricing policies for free, right? You should be limited to 250 items in your stock room, too. I would concede that anyone who has purchased a shop in their manse for the whopping fee of 1,000 credits should have more capability, but not those who bought a shop in the first weeks of the game for around 100,000 gold.
Unknown2005-09-13 04:27:35
Everyone should at least be able to get the message saying that some items were not shown.

It would just be a small thing that would appear to require little drastic coding that would be SOOO unbelievably helpful.

Ahem.... I bought my shop for 425k in Glomdoring, and that doesn't even begin to cover the initial and continual output of gold for taxes and keeping the shop stocked. It's not always that brilliant. (Not to mention that gold came from credits I bought OOCly).

As for limiting the items.... excuse me? I'm a tailor, I can create 246 different items of clothing. Sure, I don't like all and therefore don't create them all for the shop, but I also happen to have Arts and Runes (which also adds 6 tints, vials, pipes, tinderboxes, six runes we use on totems, etc) AND anything else I may want to sell, such as runebags or herbs that I buy. I believe WARES only shows the first 200 items on the ground. So for me, that's 100 items shown, normally, if I keep only two of everything in stock. And vials, pipes, et cetera are items you want to stock in higher numbers.

Please, add a wares 2 or something like that. smile.gif *begs*

425k gold is nothing, though, compared to paying 1,000 credits for a shop. I realize it's a large amount, but many of us could make that in a week or two without OOC credits.

I'm happy that you can make 246 different items of clothing. You and your cartel should be proud of your ambitious design skills. However, that's not an argument for being able to sell hundreds of things in a single shop. The creators have seen fit to give shopkeepers many things for free that you have to pay quite a bit for in Achaea (and maybe other IRE games, which I wouldn't know about).

I'm sure that I'm the only one who would rather see more variety and fewer items available, but it's probably just my jealousy at seeing people own four shops and stock them with little to nothing or at having had worked so hard to obtain my master shopkeeper's license in Achaea.

I will agree with Avaer, however, that a line could be added telling you that there are more items you haven't seen. The rest is the shopkeeper's problem. tongue.gif

Pssht, some of us don't have the time or patience to bash. Or the lack of being-jumped-and-able-to-fight-yness.

I'm a tailor. I paid for credits for my damn skills too (twice, don't ask) and if the creator sees fit to let us ALL be able to create 200+ designs with one tradeskill, why is it so difficult to ask for?

Edited for middle-of-the-night-ness.

Bau2005-09-14 02:38:43
Celest won't LET me lease a shop.

Edit: OMFG, I can't type today. crying.gif

I'm almost tempted to sell my shop right now, actually.

Just logged in to find it empty. My sigilled, locked, two keys in existence shop. sad.gif

So I finally got around to changing my password, changed the locks, am hiding in my shop having both issued it and posted (I know, not supposed to seek an IC AND OOC resolution, but what else what I supposed to do?)

Throw me a bone and let us have wares two? *sniffle*
