This is not a rant, I love ecology (particularly empathy and transmigration). I'm just curious as to what possible uses the skill of AnimalGrowth is designed for.
I tested with Sandojins - when both empowered and enlarged it took at most 3 extra cudgel hits, and did maybe 70 more damage per attack. But what purpose does that tiny bit serve?
For a five-power skill, I would have thought it was a significant boost to help some endangered animal fight back and survive against city hunters. That just doesn't seem to be the case.
Can anyone come up with an idea of where this skill would be useful?
HerbRenewal is sort of in the same boat, but I can at least imagine a case in which herbalists might be willing to spend the power to get instant results for some rare plant, before it naturally regrows.

And since AnimalGrowth serves no use in combat that I can see, since we can't enlarge loyals, why have a 5 power cost?
Soll2005-09-12 15:42:49
Oooh. Maybe it increases the XP gain.
Sylphas2005-09-12 15:44:23
Autumn increases exp gain on everything, for a day. It costs no power. If AnimalGrowth increases exp gain, it had better do it by a LOT to be worth it.
Ashteru2005-09-12 15:51:25
What, NO power for Autumn? I need to get that....
Unknown2005-09-12 23:22:56
How do you get that it increases XP?
It just makes the creature a slightly higher level. If you mean as a result of that, then empowerment influence serves the same function.

Hmm.
We need incredibly powerful, rare, endangered species. That we can make godlike with our 5p so they aren't hunted for ivory/pelts.

And actually, Empowerment DOES increase the XP you get from a creature. The XP you get is based on their level, which is increased by Empowerment.
Unknown2005-09-12 23:52:06
Aye, that's what I said.
Suhnaye2005-09-13 02:25:33
I'm not really aware of the skills in ecology... But... Couldn't you empower them first, and then make them a loyal? Prolly somethin that prevents this... and they should be able to empower Dogs and Wolves for trackers, making them more powerfull in combat
Sylphas2005-09-13 02:27:33
No. You get a loyal by rebirthing a dead creature.
Suhnaye2005-09-13 02:29:41
And they lose the empowerment when you kill them?
Sylphas2005-09-13 02:53:42
Yes. The creature you rebirth is entirely different. I routinely get foxes and owls from deer.
Also, it's temporary anyway, so it would still be useless.

Can you growth your familiar?
Gregori2005-09-13 06:35:01
No, you cannot enlarge your familiar. Enlarge seems to only be useful for antagonising novice moose hunters.

That cracked me up for some reason. I think it was this image of some paladin newbie with a sword stalking up to a moose while this Canadian raccoon druid lurks in a bush, before suddenly jumping out and causing the moose to triple in size, watching the novice get squashed flat by its hooves.
