From 'The coming of Estarra',

QUOTE
As Estarra studied the world of Lusternia and what it had became, she realized that one day the living seals would expire and release the Soulless Gods. She could not move directly against the Soulless Gods for their beings had become a part of Lusternia and destroying them would destroy the world completely. Nor could she strengthen the seals directly, for the seals were made from the essence of the mortal races and could only be revitalized by mortals themselves. She gathered the seals for safekeeping with the promise that when the seals began to fail, she would release them onto Lusternia for the ultimate ritual whereby the greatest mortal living would wield the seals, and the seals would create from that mortal an Ascended God, the process recharging the seals to protect against the Soulless Gods for another generation.

omg, who will be teh greatest living m0rtal?

Likely someone who doesn't even play yet, as I don't see this happening for another 5 RL years. Meh.

Oh, maybe a mod could throw the 'other' option on there?
Acrune2005-09-14 00:31:37
Hmm, interesting. I should actually read the histories, instead of scanning over a few of them in between classes at school. I think it'd be neat if it was one of the oldest players though, some one that nearly everyone knows because he or she has always been around. Preferably someone with the surviving Kethuru honors line.

Edit: I also see it as a person with strong magic abilities rather then actual combat expertise, although that could be the mage speaking tongue.gif

Why aren't I up there! The power of cute rainbows!

It worked in My Little Ponies!

Also, interesting note: It says Soulless GODS, even though the Seals only hold Kethuru in. Maybe He'll free the rest upon breaking loose.

What an ape**** event that is going to be...
Shamarah2005-09-14 00:35:30
Would this ever really actually happen? I mean, it'd kinda be a plot conclusion... which isn't a good thing on an ongoing MUD. Though I'm sure the Divine could come up with a way to keep it going.
Murphy2005-09-14 00:36:38
oi, what about murphy!!
Acrune2005-09-14 00:37:21
It doesn't look to be plot ending, it says 'recharging the seals for another generation'. So every time Kethuru gets uppity, a new great mortal steps up and re-seals, and becomes a god.
Unknown2005-09-14 01:00:16
It sounds like the mortal would be ascended to Divinehood and also have an Order, kinda like ascension in Achaea? That'd be pretty cool, though I also don't believe it'd be a plot (wait, there's a plot going on???) conclusion or something. There is no conclusion to life, is there?
Joli2005-09-14 01:11:28
Bet Geb would do it. biggrin.gif

Geb is scary when he gets angry. fear.gif
Acrune2005-09-14 01:14:13
Yeah, I can totally see Geb doing it, but he better not because the Aquamancers still need him *claim*
Unknown2005-09-14 01:18:12
Haha, 3 people other than myself voted for Tully so far.
Raezon2005-09-14 01:32:51
*cackle* What the histories don't tell you is the newly ascended God would implode because all his energies would go into recharging the seals... and you only thought it'd be a good idea.
Acrune2005-09-14 01:36:19
I was wondering how that'd work. A low energy mortal powering seals (which took a whole god's energy for one seal) was going to produce enough energy to turn a mortal into a god. Unless Isune pops out and fuses with the mortal... tongue.gif

Dang and I thought it'd be a quick way to become an Elder God. Imploding doesn't sound like much fun. tongue.gif

Saving the world, becoming a god, then totally destroying yourself.

If you have to go out, that's DEFINATLY the way to do it. biggrin.gif

If I become a Goddess I think Hajamin might use the seals as a quick painless way out of dealing with me. biggrin.gif

"Lets play hide and go seek! Joli, you should hide in this energyless seal right over there, because I don't think I'll ever look in there..." biggrin.gif

I'm soooo insulted, you forgot me completely.

I'll just have to say... none of you.

It'll be some n00b who's only been around for a month and has already pissed off everyone he or she's met (and some he or she even hasn't!)
Unknown2005-09-14 03:55:27
Well, the mortal who does it doesn't actually have to -create- a seal, just recharge the existing ones. With the assistence of Estarra I imagine it would be possible.

I always figured that whoever did this would be raised to a status above a Vernal God but below an Elder God. Perhaps an 'Ascendant God', to tie in with the game's subtitle.
