Hi,i just started playing this MUD,and i was wondering if anyone had some advice?Im a visconti in the nhilists,level 7.Currently still in the newton caverns.

-Do i need/should open the portals in the caverns?

They allow you to access more of the newbie area, and there are two "honors" quests out there that everyone can see that you've done, and that are no longer accessable after you're no longer a newbie.

-Until what level should i stay there?

You get kicked out after 21, most of us can no longer enter.

-What are bent rivets/jar of gunk for?

Try GREETing the npcs around there, and put on that thinking cap!

-How long do corpses/quest items have before they decay?

It varies. Newbie quest items decay fairly quickly so that people can do the quests, corpses usually last a bit longer.

-Is there some way to have a cilient map?Constantly checking between the cilient and the map on the website,then checking with QL to see whether im in the correct spot has gotten kind of....frustrating.

There certainly is. I use the Zmud client, which is free for the basic version, $25 or so for the updated one (or jack a copy from a friend). Maps can be made for this, and Thorgal has an -excellent- one for sale for 25cr. I would be lost without it, for the most part.

-Should i be worried about getting gold/essence/equipment yet?Ive basically been 1-hitting up to guards in the caverns(havent seen anything harder)

Start looking into that kind of stuff. You should be able to come out of the caverns with a fair amount of gold, doing essence quests for your city/commune get you good experience/karma/gold usually, and equipment is always good to have.

-Is there a point to the clunketly clunker?

If you open them you will b able to go to Lolliprin, from there you can get to top of Smoke Mountain.

-Until what level should i stay there?
If you get on Smoke Mountain, its greeat place to get gold and exp, i would sit there until level 21, then you wont be able to go to cavern, Lolliprin or Smoke Mountain.

-What are bent rivets/jar of gunk for?
You may find out when you get on Lolliprin.
It's good to know that there are 2 honors quests.
Saviuor of Gnomes and Hero of Finks.

It depends from corpses, but those in newton caverns around 15-30 minutes, but i'm not sure it was almoust year when i was there.

I'm using map from website, i saved it on my comp opened in ACDSee and set always on top    So i have my client and map visible in same time.

I would suggest you to get as much gold as you can on Smoke Mountain, you should be able to get around 20k there and then on level 20-21 you should start looking for equipment, exploring world and learn some more things, ask on guild they will help you and tell you what you should know.

Does it matter which karma quest i do?

You get karma when you are doing some quests, not all quests give karma.


Where is smoke mountain?
Look around when you will be on Lolliprin.

All the NPCs dont seem to mention the jar/rivet.....i only found mucka/fink/cranky that mentions the widgets,chains and gnome corpses so far.
You have not been on Lolliprin yet.

My experience with cilients like that seem to always have problems one way or the other......
I'm using zMUD too. It realy isnt so hard and it have built in mappet to, but as i alredy sad i'm using ACDSee to look at map.

Is there a better way to get gold other than just giving mucka corpses for 1 gold?It looks like it would take a while to do this(killing gnomes,getting corpses then rushing to mucka before they decay....).
Selling corpse in Newton/Lolliprin/Smoke Mountain is best gold for you i think. On Smoke mountain they pay 45gp for corpse.
Leading Pilgrims on Avechna Peak could be also good way to get exp and gold, but i would suggest you to wait until level 21 with it.

Can you clarify on essence quests?Im still not sure how to donate the corpses for essence.And what equipment should i be getting?
you should ask in guild about those, GNT is guild novice channel if you dont know alredy

Hmm i thought you said there were 2 types of karma quest?Or is honour quest a different thing?

Cranky gives 1 karma per widget,i thought finko would do the same with chains?

where is Lolliprin and how do i get there?Portals?Or from cavern?
In Newton caverns there are two portals Iron Portal and Golden POrtal, you have to help to repair them, activate them and enter them. They lead to Lolliprin.

I must repair the portals to get the honors thing?Or is it something else?

And.....what do i need to give to the gnome explorers?
