I was just wondering if anyone else was thinking about making a bookstore (or writing in-game books) i was considering trying to get one of the clans i'm in to write some books that we could sell, but there's not much of a market for it right now.

also i wanted to suggest a new bookbinding skill

Newpaper
Like a normal book but has no differing designs
You can also add pages by remaking the paper.

The idea for this also goes towards my idea of having in ic newpaper produced by players, reporting on clans, guilds... Tully, etc

You can already do this. Stop suggesting things that exist tongue.gif You just need to printingpress a scroll or pamphlet, and update it every few OOC days. Of course ingame books will exist - what the heck do you think libraries are for? tongue.gif There just isn't incentive or ways to really share them efficently right now.

*pouts*

*points to the newspaper idea* if that were to become something that was really active two or so pages would be a mite small

Then use a bigger book for it tongue.gif We're making a newsletter for the Coven once the pamphlet for it gets approved. Might use a 25 page book instead later, if the pamphlet turns out to be too small.

The reason behind the idea is so that you don't have to pay as much for them because they wouldn't need to be customised, also they might decay as well so that they don't clutter our inventories

A pamphlet wouldn't cost much of ANYTHING if you're constantly updating the master copy. Two wood.. whoopy-de-doo! People have to pay -something- for a constantly updated newspaper that doesn't even decay. tongue.gif

thats what the suggestion of a newspaper command is for.

it would be cheap to make and each time you remake it it would add another page to it. you copy that and pass it out, but in x ammount of years all copies decay while the master is retained.

Don't need it.

You can't -possibly- need more than two pages for an in-game newspaper and it's already cheap to make. Two wood for copies. Just charge people for a pamphlet and that'll be that and maybe a little extra for magical ink.

Otherwise there's the boards. I think it's easily possible with the resources we have now. Maybe at the -least- they could add a few pages to the pamphlet design.

Hmm...

well i know from experience that if a ingame newspaper is released (in lusty)you'll end up with a clan filled with people being paid to write articles. Every skillchange, new feature, anything that happens ends up written about in depth there.
On another mud we had a publicly available scrying method, that got nerfed to nil (think crystal balls suddenly becomming stones), I was asked to research every possible method to get around this calling on any guild skill i could.

This is what i'm talking about by a news paper.
Possible articles for one could be.
An interview with Tully about his experiments at hallifax(plans or results)
How the guilds feel about there recent changes.
How has the release of hunting affected both warriors and druids.
An Interview with some important person (god/dess or player)
Reports on major raids.
Interviews with Celest citizens about their recent success in village influencing.
*old topic* Information about the tidal flats.

this sort of thing would probably go lusty yearly (the other mud was rl monthly but really good pay)

so i kinda disagree perhaps for something small yeah you could write a pamphlet but when your looking at how much it could have, it wouldn't work

oh well, back to plotting

You know scrolls and pamphlets have infinite page length, right?
Saran2005-09-16 05:57:05
*motions to the lunar breviary*
note how easy it is to read through 12 rituals on one file (i thinks thats right)
Shiri2005-09-16 06:05:41
You don't need 12 rituals every newspaper update.
Saran2005-09-16 06:14:11
No but look at the rituals and how easily read they are. then think about paying to read something like that
