Okay, I kinda liked the functionless fashion stuff one could buy in Caer Wintrin in Achaea and was wondering how its implementation into Lusternia would be recieved.
I was thinking something like a skill in Arts that allows one to mix tinctures into different colored makeup, or maybe even perfumes. They'd do nothing except make one feel pretty.
Another useless aesthetic thingy that might be fun could be a skill that allows one to use tinctures to tattoo people. Perhaps Jewelers could get this skill along with piercing, and cartels would create their own designs that could be applied on different parts of the anatomy, kinda like piercings. Some sort of acidic venom could be poured on tattoos to remove them.

As the player of Yila, I am for this idea
Richter2005-09-16 22:28:51
I like the tattoo idea.
Unknown2005-09-16 22:44:58
The tattoo idea is not that bad, though I can imagine pretty much everyone with several tattoos already.
Cosmetics...umm, not really.
First bathrooms, then feng shui, now this...
How about male human (and perhaps other appropriate race) characters having to shave everyday?
Imho, it's not the direction this game ought to go.

Cosmetics was fun in Achaea. Especially the perfumes and candles that came with it.
If we saw a tradeskill built around perfumes, candles, cosmetics, etc. I think it would be interesting.
Just one of those things. Of course, it'd have to be a city thing. silly forestals don't need it. Maybe a forestal tradeskill of similiar make? Who knows.
PUT CANDLES IN ARTISAN! PUT THEM ALL IN ARTISAN!
See? Brilliant idea.

Imperian has those little scent ball thingies Ialie was going on about.

So did Achaea. Except Achaea's was perfume. And it was awesome. <3

Tattoos....
Bau2005-09-17 00:36:27
No cosmetics.
Tattoos would be nice.

perhaps . . .
Bag lunches with our names written on them with magic marker?
Hangnails, that would be cool.
Maybe a way for us to itemize deductions at the end of the fiscal year?
perhaps. . . a new affliction . . . possibly Diarreah . . . you have buy like bottles of Pepto-Bismol and such to cure?

Guys,
Sometimes the little things /DO/ matter.
I mean, while the admins should focus on stuff that's important to the game aspects, nothing prevents them from also doing minor things. Customization is always something players love.
It's not just Worlds of Warcraft with a Zork interface, it's a world to live in.

Actually, if we are able to get the perfume and those things, maybe we can fit it with lowmagic users. The tattoos, maybe a skill set to do designs, magical and not.
touch firefly (target):
You touch a firefly tattoo drummed across your neck as Bob suddenly illuminates, making him easier to hit.

NO.
WE ARE NOT HAVING ACHAEA TATTOOS. I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU MAKE THEM DO.
If we were to have tattoos, I would only approve of the type that are embedded in the skin and look hawt.

Tattoos should be semi-permanent, and be a tradeskill, so they can be designed. Nothing magical, of course. Just kickin'ness.
And, for all of you who don't want cosmetics - why? If you don't like them, don't use them.

Hmmm, I had forgotten about scented candles. Maybe there could be incense as well, it could be held or set in a holder to provide endurance/willpower regeneration for its short duration.
Also, though I agree bathrooms and shaving and such are chores that take the addition of realism a little too far, I think having things that add a little flair to one's description would be really fun.

Bleh, No...
If you want tattoos, write them into your characters description. There's your personalization.
I absolutely HATED perfumes on Achaea, all they did was spam the hell out of everyone in the room with the idiotic scent echos. They had no use except to cause even more unwanted spam across people's screen.
The only way i could see cosmetics being useful is if it was needed for a camouflage skill or something.
This isn't Achaea, lets not make it like Achaea.

I agree, the perfumes in Achaea were a bit annoying. However I was thinking more along the lines of a line added to the end of one's description stating "She smells faintly of lavender". Tattoos in one's description pose the same problem as writing in clothes. That is to say, a tattoo on your abdomen shouldn't be visible if your abdomen isn't visible. I just think this sort of thing could provide a unique roleplay opportunity, like every member of a certain guild getting that guild's official tattoo.
Cosmetics could help with camouflage, or perhaps making one more persuasive. Also, with the new Tracking skillset, perfumes may also serve a purpose in masking one's scent or something.

I'd like tattoos, but they might have to be a tradeskill with designs and such. Possibly slightly magical but not like Achaea, more like subtle constant or random effects. Like itching when a dreamweaver is present or when an ally or enemy enters your area.

And then we could have people with allergies, forcing them to sneeze, doing about 1282 damage to themself, and blasting snot at others, spreading the infection.
Here we come T Virus!

Some forestals I know would manage not only to hurt themselves just lighting the candles, they'd set the whole darn forest on fire.
And on that note, can we please let Serenwilde have them?
