*holds up a sign reading "Could Shorlen not respond to this topic as i'm sick of his comments"*
Now i'm fairly sure your all sick of me, so before i give up the delusion that this place is for newer players aswell i thought i would bring this up.
i've been thinking about this for a while and more recently it's become slightly more important. I want to suggest the addition of a TONE command.
The idea is that when you communicate with someone this would add a tone. Mainly so that it is easier to communicate especially at a distance.
for example a sad tone would have these results
(Channel): *someone* sadly says, "blah blah blah"
just something to make communicating how you are saying something easier and also prevent people from just adding in things within *'s because they want to refer to a tone.
please no flames, i've been abused enough tonight

The smilies we can put in can regulate this kinda stuff enough I think.
Bau2005-09-18 12:56:52
I don't see why that would be a problem, as long as they were well thought-out and nothing stupid.
Bau2005-09-18 12:57:21
Laneth, they only work in says. He wants it for channels too.
Saran2005-09-18 13:10:01
yeah, my character is upset and moping around, yet to someone else listening to the channel he could be on top of the world

Phrase things better then.

was my way of showing the channels version...

I don't see any particular problem with this, provided as Bau said they are reasonable.
I'd actually prefer channels were more explicitly marked as aetherwaves, something like
(Channel): Elryn broadcasts, "Hi everyone."
or
(Channel): Elryn's thoughts echo, "Hi everyone."

I always felt that the aether channels are more mentally communicated and the feeling is a bit vague compared to speaking in a room. If you're in the room, they see you smile or frown. If you on the Astral plane, they only get your words and no real emotion. I actually like this since it makes you choose your words more carefully to avoid misunderstanding.
If such a change were implemented, however, it shouldn't require a separate command. Just add the same syntax we already use in SAYS for conveying emotion.

Blah. That can be used against ANY idea. Teleport? Just walk. Healing? Just hit, run, and sleep. Underpowered Pureblade? Get better.
Sure, it's not direly needed, but what makes it an actual BAD thing to add in, assuming the coders have time to add it (and they can figure that out for themselves)? It would lessen the need of those annoying *'s used and help with the fact that you realy can't display emotion in pure text (it's why the internet developed Smilies in the first place) even though Channels are supposed to be Audible and, thus, filled with emotion.
If they add it, they NEED to make sure that you can '(channel) You whine,' If only because I need that badly.

yeah, some people will have a go at others because they view something they *'ed as inappropriate, if there was a coded method that would stop.
someone has actually smiled on ct and then said you can hear a smile so its ok.

I know you asked me to not respond to this topic, but I thought I would anyway.
Your idea is great. I love it.
The best we can do now is have a tone surrounded by -'s or *'s. It'd be nice to actually say/think/broadcast with a clearly set tone, like the say emoticons.
Smiling is considered a tone, since you can hear a smile in a voice. When being teased, for instance, saying "Stop it." and saying "Stop it -smiles-" convey completely different meanings - the first implies annoyance, the second is said friendily, concenting to the joking about.
I have been attacking you often here, as I think most of your ideas are not well thought out, and you often say things that cast the Coven in a bad light and are completely untrue, at least from my perspective. However, this idea is a good one. I'll stop posting the angry responses, and send them via PM from now on

I would personally LOVE this. I always have a problem trying to get across a feeling/sound of my voice on aethers, without using or too many *smile* *chuckle* etc....please please please if possible I would beg for this one to put in. It would help a TON
Unknown2005-09-18 23:01:13
I suppose this could work. They could make it like says where you tack certain emoticons at the end to change it, although some would have to be edited. could be 'says slyly' instead of 'says with a wink', for example.
Bau2005-09-18 23:07:16
It'd certainly stop some arguments and add to the argh pee.
