Forging Items

Back to Ideas.

Forging has got to be the least well paying professions. Currently our items last a very long time, cost very little markup and are most often available to the warriors (who need them most) from their own higher level guildmates.
It's a crappy market.

So I want to see what other ideas people can come up with for forgeable items, in particular items that are helpful to a certain class or skill outside of warriors, or are universally helpful.

For starters:
Pennants/Charms:
Similar to the heraldry system in Achaea. Just simpler, and actually does something. There are a series of background designs, then a series of foreground symbols or illustrations. Each of the different designs has different helpful effects and costs different commodities. A forger may create a pennant or large charm out of a combination of a foreground and background. The person who commissioned it may have it enchanted, then wear it to gain the particular boon.

Example:
A pennant of shining gold, embossed with the figure of a blood red dragon.
Parts:
Gold pennant: 15 gold, 5 platinum commodities. +1 intelligence
Figure of Red Dragon: 10 redtint, 5 garnet, 5 iron commodities. +Critical bonus

You get the idea. Comments, or even better, any other forging ideas?

I agree that forging should be more profitable, but I don't know about further increasing the buffs in the game.

You want to take over jewelers' business?
Ekard2005-09-24 17:22:25
Yea! Who needs jewelers? tongue.gif
Ashteru2005-09-24 17:25:09
Great! And make all new things forgers can do enchantable! Enchanters are too poor as it is. ninja.gif
Richter2005-09-24 17:28:24
We need more patterns.

Great idea, sword with web enchantment!
You will be webed by hit! deal.gif
Richter2005-09-24 17:47:40
And your armour would make you regen health, mana, and ego.
Ashteru2005-09-24 17:58:47
And all that enchants can only be done by a character whos name starts with an Ashter and ends with an u. For the magic of it. kiss.gif
Ixion2005-09-24 18:14:38
Agreed Folken, but the buffs would have to be very very weak.
Unknown2005-09-24 18:23:47
Yah. I'm just thinking up ideas. And my pennants would be quite large, not like just a small charm that a jeweller could make.
Bau2005-09-24 21:08:10
Ah, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a pennant a flag, and aren't flags usually made by tailors...?

And for the record - NO to ANYTHING like the heraldry system. No offence, but I hated that thing.

What we should be able to do is submit our own patterns to the whatever for approval and keep it as our own personal patterns. Makes it a bit more artsy, makes each weapon (and weaponmaker) that much more special, and people will flock to...i dunno...grand masters for a certain custom sword design. The only problem is it gets rid of the customize weapon credit thing, and I'm sure Iron Realms would not like that.

What if level played a role in which armor you can wear, like you can't wear fieldplate/greatrobes/fullplate, unless your level 50 or 60 or above.
Cwin2005-09-25 17:41:07
Why? Level doesn't determine how large you are, or how strong you are, or how old you are. It's a measure of experience and inner strength. That's not going to determine whether I can wear plate mail.

What hurts is that almost everything that a forger makes is only for people who can forge. The other archetypes either make their own weapons or use greatrobes. Meanwhile, make a note that many of those warriors make their own weapons and armor.

Outcome: who in the world is left to buy the darn things?

Don't even MENTION that greatrobes should be reduced since every Wiccan/Druid/Mage/Guardian will disembowl you if you try. Make the other armors stronger and you'll need Field and Full plate stronger, and do you want even tankier warriors? Make the armors equal to greatrobes and it still work work, since robes can be proofed.

Perhaps allow dwarven runes to be put on greatrobes and power-made weapons (i.e sickles, crugels, staffs, ext)?

Level affects how much health you have, affects how great of a voice you have, affects if your a god or not, I think affecting your ability to hold armor on your body is connected. Should also apply to mater weapons.

If you can't wear super armor untill you are higher level then blacksmiths will have a market with whom to give the not as good armor to.

No need to make any super changes to anything or screw over other trade skills.

*edit: Its not like it even takes long to get to level 50 or 60.

No buffs. Just cool little heraldric items. That'd be awesome. I guess medals could be done by jewelers. What other things can be forged?

So you're saying that Bau, who transed tailoring (twice) well over 10 years ago, and originally closer to thirty years ago, should NOT be able to wear her splendor robes because she's only level 52? Even though splendor robes can only be MADE by a trans tailor, and can only be WORN by a trans tailor?

Pennants can also be giant steel designs you stick atop a standard or flagpole as if it were a flag, or as the header to a flag.
Bau2005-09-25 23:08:02
Add on to my earlier post... cause, you know, Bau tends to be a little busy for bashing a lot of the time.
