Is there a specific reason why we can teleport to our respective nexuses on Prime, but not to our nexuses which appear on the other planes? Having the communes be able to nexus home on Ethereal or the cities on the Elemental/Cosmic planes would be extremely useful from what I can see, and I can't really see any reason why we shouldn't be able to do it on the Prime material plane but none of the others.

I've been wondering this forever. If nothing else, we should be able to do it once we've gotten to Tesseract, as by that point we can teleport across planes, and it should be a simple matter to find your nexus on a plane and teleport there.
Shiri2005-09-26 14:33:14
I'm not really sure what the idea here is. If it's "I want to be able to teleport nexus from somewhere in the middle of Nil to...Nil" I can't see it being useful anywhere except maybe the Earth Plane.
If it's "I want to be able to teleport nexus from Astral to (say) Nil, once I have tesseract/nexus/something" then sure, that would be really nice. Although I kind of hoped Astroglide in astrology would do that (what the hell is the point of going UP if you can't go DOWN? >_<), it would be nice to do that for a power cost or something, maybe...

Its a case of "I want to be able to teleport from anywhere on a plane to my nexus, which is where all my immolating and power draining and transversing skills come into play and can't understand why we have the ability to do it on prime, but not all the other nexuses of ours that have ALL the same functionality but this one skill".

-nod- Communes would kind of be screwed in comparison to the cities, but even just having it on Ethereal would be nice.

Kind of? We'd get about nothing, they get a huge upgrade on water, earth, or Astral. But at least we don't get any downgrade, and those few Glomdoring/Serenwilde folk who get lost on Ethereal can find their way home...
Edit: Though the advantage on water isn't anywhere near as useful as the other two.

If this is a realism thing, then it should -not- be useable on Astral, from the Histories we know that the companions of the Emperor didn't even know their own Nexi untill they were right next to it.
Xenthos2005-09-26 17:19:40
But they also didn't know how to use astral gates, and that was a huge undertaking when they did, whereas we learn it (relatively) low in Planar. Heck, they couldn't even communicate very well from Astral!
If you're able to tesseract to somebody, you should also be able to find the very tiny threads that are a nexus' link to the Astral plane.

And it shouldn't work from the Mountains of Madness... that would be too easy.

You can already teleport/tesseract/demesne center/hermit/whatever you want out of the Mountains anyways... this just gives Magnagora a little bit of a home field advantage.
Unknown2005-09-26 17:26:22
Mountains of madness is a different continent anyway, so it wouldn't work.

Are you sure? You *can* teleport out of the mountains to a person. You *can* tesseract out of them.
Ixion2005-09-26 17:31:07
Reiteration: Daevos's idea of spending power to strengthen the aether threads around a nexus so you can go up and down from astral is a solid idea. Knights in cities (and commune members enemied to both cities) get the big hairy shaft for planar travel, and it sucks.

Only with planarsight, Xenthos. I did the "I told you so" dance in the Mountains a couple months ago when you all insisted we could just teleport out. I have witnesses.
Xenthos2005-09-26 19:33:15
What "I told you so"? I teleported out. I teleport out to Mell once to twice whenever she drags me into the mountains and leaves me there.
Edit: I was asking for an Ethereal target because Murphy had no power and wanted to get out quickly. I could have just as easily asked for an Earth target, and it would have worked just fine.
So I guess "I told you so!"

The mountains of madness are considered a different continent. You can only teleport back and forth once you have the ability in Planar that allows inter-continent teleportation. In any case, teleport nexus doesn't work if you are off continent even if you have the planar ability.
I think this idea is fine, but it should have a power cost and -not- work on Astral. Astrologers have astroglide, which would be worthless if everyone could just teleport nexus.
