Sorry, but Qrio beats both of those
Singollo2005-09-29 19:23:47
So this isn't about Robitussin? Ok, I'm not interested anymore.

Maybe, but you can buy robosapien and roboraptor in any toy store!
Laysus2005-09-29 19:45:07
Qrio's not on the market yet so far as I know. And it dances better than either of them could
And it makes my robotics-studying self drool

I don't know... Qrio didn't really move his legs all that much, just his arms and the fancy fans. I think Robosapien could do the exact same thing.
And the official website and wiki says they have no plans on releasing it to the public. It is now sony's official ambassador.

Makes it even cooler. And moving the legs is generally harder because it requires more movement of the torso which shifts the centre of gravity making balancing harder, so I can understand the lack of large leg movements.

Still, the smoothness of the dancing in that first clip. Wow-o. That's freaking insane. Definitely makes you think that fully functioning andriods will happen in our lifetime.
Not to spark some metaphysical philosophical debate, but considering the abilities of current animation... one wonders what the creationary minds will do with fully flexible robots that can perform exactly like a human. Imagine a ballet whose cast is completely robots programmed. Generally one would assume, "It wouldn't have that human depth!" but then we'd have to take into account that a human created the program and designed the dance.
Gives new meaning to "doing the robot" I guess

I'd say with the current state of robotics that a robot dance would be indeed possible and nifty because they'd all be perfectly synchronised and creepy!
but considering theres only like two robots in the world that can actually run (meaning that at one point they have both feet in the air) you might have to wait a while.

Number one priority is going to be android sex slaves.
Whether you agree that they should exist or not, you can't deny that it's going to be the first application of the technology. *Sagenod*

after watching that video i'd have to say thats excellent there limb movements are so smooth. I'm pretty certain thats the robot sony wants to have running around their office greeting people and delivering mail. Very cool.
