I don't know if this is intentional, but if you're creating a new character without using the Nexus client you cannot see what stats each race has, nor their advantages and disadvantages.
Is it supposed to be that way?
Although I could understand encouraging a roleplay-based selection over uberstat selection, I think it puts new players at a disadvantage when they cannot access all the information they should be able to.
Maybe allow HELP (race) to work in addition to INFO (race)?

Before anyone says, You can, idiot!
Let me just note that I've already said the same thing, then went and checked myself.
Example:
Race > info merian
The merians are the proudest of the races and have the richest history.
Originally ocean dwellers, the race is decidedly aquatic looking. However, with
the influx of humans and given their ability to interbreed with other races,
many present day merians look astonishingly human-like, some even growing hair.
Even so, all merians have bluish complexions (though ranging in hue) and the
ability to breathe water.
HELP : The general race help file.
RACES : List you the available races.
INFO : Information on the race.
SELECT : Select the given race for your character.
Where'd the stats go?
EDIT: Sorry I called you an idiot

They have been that way for a WAY long time peoples, I think probably since the first envoy changes even maybe.
Eyod2005-10-08 14:21:57
I noticed it a week ago and bugged it, please change it back this is really quiet rough on anyone not using nexus
Asarnil2005-10-08 15:40:23
I kinda like it as it is - means people might actually choose their races more for RP reasons than for powergaming.
Ceren2005-10-08 15:59:25
Not really. Sooner or later they'll find out about something like mugwump and switch, unless they're a really serious roleplayer.
Asarnil2005-10-08 16:09:43
Yeah, but they start out thinking about the races in RP terms, and hopefully that will stick long enough so they continue to think about the game like that.
Acrune2005-10-08 21:31:06
Suppose you want to rp someone who is charismatic? *choose igasho* Oops!
Shryke2005-10-09 00:23:19
if the RP idea is true, Nexus wouldn't display stats either...

Amen. Can it really be called roleplaying when your character concept is based on an optimal race/guild/skillset choice?201533
Eyod2005-10-09 21:28:50
and then of course theres the hour later, 'how do I change my race' questions to undersecs.
silimaur2005-10-10 10:35:01

Of course. There is such a range of characters you could play, that I don't think it really matters if race/guild/skill comes before the role or after. Like I'm trying to get a D&D campaign together here, because I think playing a pixie arcane archer would be lots of fun. I'm not sure of the RP yet, but that doesn't mean it won't have any.

Psh, I chose human because of the exp bonus and mid-range stats, then based a character around it.

Go with Druidic Shapeshifter! They own, good RP for them and changing into damn near anything you want just rocks.
