What if there was a near trans environment skill that allowed you to remove unmelded environments called by either a druid or mage?
It would have to require either at least 2 power, or say 60 seconds of uninterrupted focus to achieve.
Note that this is only unmelded environments, and it must necessarily be inferior to what demesner's can do. But it would give others a chance to at least remove the annoying forest/taint/flood left everywhere once the mage has finished with it.
And there's no way of going back to neutral environments short of waiting a couple of weeks. Especially unhelpful when a secure place is forested, and the only way to prevent flowing is by flooding/tainting. Which is very annoying indeed.

I like the idea
Ceren2005-10-16 16:07:46
I don't really like it because Lusternia gives me the impression that mages/druids are meant to be a crucial part of combat. I think this would cheapen their importance.
Cwin2005-10-16 16:20:41
It wouldn't ruin the combat side though, since in combat the area would be melding and, thus, unremovable through the proposed skill. It would only affect areas that aren't melded at all (and, thus, offering nothing to the mage/druid).
I can see herbalists loving this: flooded and tainted areas are left all over the place for no good reason, destroying the herbs within. It would also make Environment more useful.

All for it!
Athana2005-10-16 16:39:06
That's going to stink during group combat when a mage/druid is trying to taint/flood/forest/infest a room and everyone keeps poofing it away so they can't meld
Soll2005-10-16 16:40:56
That's really not viable in group combat. If you're trying to taint/meld, that's.. Four seconds from tainting to having it melded, max. It won't unmeld/taint anything that's part of a demesne, so.. I can't see why it would stop a mage/druid from melding.
All for this.
All for this.
Athana2005-10-16 16:42:41
Oh, forgot about that 60 second thing, alright that's fine then!
Unknown2005-10-16 16:43:00
If its the 60 second limit, it won't be a problem.
Geb2005-10-16 16:52:20
60 seconds is too darn long. I suggest making it 20 seconds. That is plenty of time for the mage/druid to place the environment and meld it before the person with the proposed skill could destroy it.
Unknown2005-10-16 16:57:06
Well, I'd prefer it was a significant action. It costs 1 power to create the environment, if it can be taken down in 20 seconds that isn't very balanced.
How about 2 power -and- 10 seconds?
How about 2 power -and- 10 seconds?

and 20 seconds.
Sylphas2005-10-16 17:17:52
It takes one power, which isn't really significant by itself. I think a long balance time would be enough to balance it. I mean, say you try and clear a village. That's going to be about 2000 seconds or so to clear the place, when a druid can forest it all in about 400. That's 5x as long. And I can think of no skill in any IRE game that takes 60 seconds to recover from. Radiance is 30, I think, and that's the longest I can recall. 20 seconds and 1 power, maybe?
Richter2005-10-16 17:19:48
I like it, I could get the unmelded demesnes out of my home, instead of waiting forever.
Unknown2005-10-17 00:05:34
I like it. Not sure on the specifics, but a non-combat alternative to cleaning up the area sounds good to me.

and how bout the place can't have been newly changed. maybe it must have been that environment for one lusternian day before it can be removed this way?
otherwise there could be a team of three people that do it as soon as they regain balance right after the other person tries it.
Narsrim2005-10-17 01:15:34
I'll take two...
Acrune2005-10-17 01:27:14
Instead of a 20 second equilibrium, I thought the idea was to have it you start the move, 20 seconds later the flood/taint/forest is gone and the move is completed, assuming it hadn't been melded in that time.
Unknown2005-10-17 04:24:15
The specifics can be decided by the admin if they like the idea, but I'd just really like a common means of reverting an environment back to neutral, albeit one that cannot be used offensively.
Unknown2005-10-17 04:30:12
No. Only mages and druids should be able to influence the nature of a room.
