Hi guys,
I wanted to ask you if creating a Who's Who book, from Tully's own perspective, would be a good book to read. Here's a couple of samples of what I would write. Naturally, I don't know everybody, but I would write about the people I've encountered and/or have heard about.
Here are a couple of sample entries:
Would this type of book be an entertaining read for people? I'd want to make it one person per page so I'd have to spend some cash for this. It's a lot of work to write so I'd want to make sure this type of effort would be appreciated.

Daevos
The de jure leader of our city and the Ur'Guard, this boyo is an imposing sight. All in Magnagora give him his respect, from the highest prince to the lowest serf. All in the basin at least respect, if not fear, his power.
Do not think that this boyo is just a king who sits idlely on a throne, twiddlin' his thumbs like he was on a privy. He is a potent warrior, mastering the fine art of combat with the two-handed sword, and he usually can be seen riding his nightmare. He has been behind most of the successful campagins of Magnagora, and has had a long reign. If it wasn't for the might of the Serenwilde and Celest, it is likely he would have conquoered all of the Basin and placed it under his sharp thumb.
I have rarely spoken to Daevos. He doesn't usually deign to answer a lowly city dweller like myself, even when I polish his armor. I know he appreciates all the hard work we do in the basin. The last time I think he spoke to me directly was when I manifested the Kundalini. His response: "Nice". Clearly, he only will speak when he deems it appropriate. I have rarely heard his telepathic communications other than a salutation on the city's aethereal channels, although I suspect he is more forceful on the more secret channels of the Ur'Guard. I suspect he is working on his tactical and strategic plans constantly. Some would say he is the right hand of Fain in the Basin. He may not be the most powerful being in Magnagora, but he certainly is one of the great forces to be reconed with.
Ialie
Ialie is an complex creature. She is a faeling who discovered an artifact that transformed her into a changeling, one of those rare creatures who can assume any racial form. In her native form she has unusually dark skin for her complexion, which might at first make one confuse her for a Shadow Faeling, at least from a distance, but her wings are the more beautiful sort that the natural faelings possess.
She has a love for rainbows and I suspect she is constantly experimenting with rainbow magicks, and she apparently has made experimental breakthroughs, such as a special rainbow cubix and cloaking gem, and I suspect she has a lot more stuff she experiments with. She is a Hartstone Druid, though she is not usually on the front lines--at least, I've not seen her there, but I'm not combative so I rarely see front-line battles. She partices the art of Ecology. She is also known to have adopted a giant bumblebee called Ezyth that followed her one day. She maintains a rather large manse called Starfall Haven, which I once cleaned up. She spends a lot of her time practicing her jewelry trade.
She is somewhat whimsical and has a flightly sense of humour. She also appears to be a bit of a flirt, at least from some, let's say--interesting behavior I have seen. Hopefully this won't be a problem for the boyo who's marrying her, the druid Bastion. For a member of the Serenwilde, she doesn't seem to dislike walking around Magnagora, even though things between the two empires are a bit tense. A lot of people like Ialie. Even a fearsome warrior like Murphy seems to be charmed by Ialie's presence and demeanour.
She serves Lord Lacostian as I believe the leader of her order, thus the title Mystericon. I believe she is the right hand of Lacostian in the Basin as Marina Whytetower is the left hand as an Oracle, at least from what little I know of her. Although sometimes I wonder if even she knows as much as she says she knows. (That's the problem with mysteries, ye can't verify them.)
Still, Ialie is a very impressive boyo. I look forward to getting to know her better. I hope she lets me clean Starfall again.
Viravain.
No comment due to previous encounters with her, as well as self-preservation instincts.

That'd be pretty good, if you could make it entertaining like those
Unknown2005-10-17 00:44:01
Only if the infamous Guido Flagg is in it.
Unknown2005-10-17 00:44:18
Oh, and Daevos isn't the leader of the Ur'guard.
EDIT: Oh, and Kaervas is the 'right hand of Fain', if anyone. Not sure if that's public knowledge, though.

For the love of god Do NOT put boyo in it. Everytime Tully says that I want to strangle him.
Tully never knew Guido. He can't be in it.

Tully can just say he did some research into old records and such. I made plenty of public posts, after all.
Shamarah2005-10-17 00:47:11
Yeah, I'm sure he could find someone who knew Guido.
If you want to make it really complete, there would be a LOT of people to fill it with...

Well, we'll see. Spending time writing this means sacrificing in-game time for me. I definately will check my facts before committing it to the final work, of course.
I agree that I can read news posts, or even things like the "quotes" thread (since that's kind of the Lusternian Rumour Mill IMO). Unfortunately, I've not seen much publically said about Guido--the most I know of him comes from the Wiki entry.
Since books are works in progress, I can build them as I get to know more people, so it doesn't have to be a full-fledged one. I just want to get the important people in first.
I just want to write a good book. I've been a little bit disappointed with libraries, not from the mechanics, but because some of the works have been a little drab, and (more importantly) it seems all the books are constantly checked out so I never get to read any of them.
If I do this I'll probably end up buying 5 copies for each library or something, as well as give copies to some select people such as Richter and Ialie, whom I assume will have private bookselves when they release them.

Umm.. no. "Life outside of Lusternia" isn't Lusternia.
Aside from that, go for it.

He said from Tully's point of view - I'd never expect anything to be said about Erion, as Erion's long before Tully, and all he'd say about Kalo is that he's a honey cake addicted hartstone who hates dwarves and taint.
Nayl2005-10-17 05:33:12
Note to self: Make dwarf fall in love with Kalo.
Unknown2005-10-17 13:54:48
Yes, Ialie, I did read the backgrounds, that's how I knew you have a "special" cameo. There's just not a lot of characters who write them, apparently.

You know Kalo's getting swarmed with dwarf alts now, right?

Don't write anything about me until I finish my history (if you were going to, boyo).

Just please, for teh wellbeing of us all, write it in standard english so it looks a bit like a cultured thing. Say you hired a friendly scribe to help you with the stuff.
I doubt any publisher would release a book on wich half the words and constructions are difficult to understand. Not to say, any scholar would bash it, and thus your city wouldn't like it very much
On the other hand, it's an interesting idea, would be fun to read.
