Since auctions are starting to close, what's the opinion on how the system works?
Vix2005-10-21 03:09:25
Well, I hate it how I can't be there for the closing of the auction when all of the serious bidding starts.
Narsrim2005-10-21 03:09:56
I think it is a very nice system. I would only suggest that the auctions be slightly shorter... maybe 5 days instead of 10? It seems like the "auction action" all comes in at the end so the long periods just make it slightly tedious, hehehe.

I agree. I was out bidded by 5 crs because I couldn't be there. sad.gif

Another improvement I can think of is to let you get all the credits back if you are raising your bid on the same item. For example, I had 1000 credits and bidded 500 on the wand of illusions and was currently the highest bidder. I couldn't stay until the end of the auction and wanted to raise the max bid to 600 so I have a higher chance. But I couldn't do that, because I only had 500 credits left in the account, even though the other 500 was bidded for the same item.
Estarra2005-10-21 03:29:34
I agree the auction was a bit long. There's not much that can be done, however, if you can't be there when it closes.

We'll see about raising the bid.

I notice the majority of auctions end in 34 game days. Should I stagger those auctions?

Personally, I think the neverending vials are the best items out there and was surprised that the amulet went for so much.

I dunno. I'm a big fan of artifacts that give me something I otherwise couldn't get. While the artifact of unending health would be nice, I can have the same effect with the investment into health elixirs. The same cannot be said for soul resurrections.

One thing that wasn't advertised about the neverending vials is that they will return to you within seconds of dropping out of your inventory. So while you may not be able to loan them out, they do guaranty that you will never, ever need another of that type of potion again under any circumstance. Just consider how much gold/herbs/whatever is saved over your character's lifetime.

BTW, this may be the only time we will auction neverending vials.

The way it currently works means that if your bidding on one shovel and you lose that one at 55 you can't bid 50 on the other shovel and maybe win that one?

If thats the case, perhaps you should stagger the auctions a bit so that people can bid if they are able to be there.

And if you bid on the same thing your allready bidding on, it should return you your credits before you bid higher so that you can actually use your credits and be proactive.

edit: as for the never ending vials... 1000 credits is 4,000,000 gold which is about 20,000 refills. Does anyone ever actually drink 20,000 vials of health or bromide in their lifetime?
Estarra2005-10-21 04:35:42
Ok, the auctions are staggered!

I agree about the vials. If Ihad the credits I would buy them and my health sip would look like such

#if (@health != @MaxHealth) {sip health}

Who cares if I am 1 below max. Sip anyways!
Richter2005-10-21 05:14:49
Because then you can't sip mana, due to the potion balance. tongue.gif
Unknown2005-10-21 05:15:16
Nuts, can we reduce our maximum proxy bid too, if we're winning?

I can't see how that would be a bad thing, and it means I could bargain to swap with the person bidding on the item that's going to end at a convenient time (and sooner!)

Edit: Oh wait, no I couldn't... we can't see who is bidding. Damn.

I should have bidded on the first item in the set... sad.gif

Yes you can. It is called prioritising tongue.gif

I don't like the staggering at all.

Whereas I thought the auctions were going to end this weekend, so I might have a good chance of being here, now the one I am stuck in bidding for is ending Monday.

Can the max bids be reset, or something? I suppose I could bid on another one anyway, and just hope someone outbids me later so I don't end up with two?
Alger2005-10-21 05:57:49
cant log on at the moment. What's this staggering?
Unknown2005-10-21 06:11:02
For those auctions with four identical items all ending in around 30 game days, the last three in each set have had their times extended by some multiple of 24 hours or greater.

So for instance, instead of 32 days, the auction I bid in now ends in 79 days.

So they don't all end at the same time:

Is that the actual list? So they reset the bids?
Narsrim2005-10-21 06:47:11
Not the bids, just the time they end.

Anyone know how good those winged sandals are? Reduce the hasty mesg a lot, or just a bit? Ixion?

No you get to move faster, means you can take more steps before getting the 'hasty' message.. 1/3 faster?
