I went up on Nil to chase down Anisu for attacking denizens in Celest. I get up there and spring a trap that knocks me into another, into another, until finally I am knocked into a bit right before the Megalith of Doom on Nil. Here is a log of what happened.

You see exits leading north, east, south, and west.

You spring a trap!!
You step on a concealed plate, which springs up and tosses you violently out of
the room.
The Desert of Incalculable Grief.
The black sands continue here, heat rising up from the desert's surface in
shimmering waves. Only the dark cloud of mist to the south provides any
landmark for navigation, but even that seems to spread in the wind-swept grains
of sand. Here and there bleached bones lie half-buried, remnants of the
perished travellers that once passed this way. White and grey flecks dance in
the wind, soft like parchment or ashes.
You see exits leading north, east, south, and west.
You spring a trap!!
You step on a concealed plate, which springs up and tosses you violently out of
the room.
The Mists of Nil.
Black mist swirls throughout this area, thick and cloying. It is impossible to
see more than a foot before details are obscured by the fog, and even the
ground is near-invisible beneath the murk. Occasional sparks flash through the
clouds, and tendrils of mist move in response as if possessed of some malign
intelligence. There are 2 monolith sigils here.
You see exits leading north, west, and northwest.
You spring a trap!!
You step on a concealed plate, which springs up and tosses you violently out of
the room.
Before the Megalith of Doom.
Emerging from the black mists that surround it, this small hillock of rock is a
plain crag of darkened rock. Its surface is broken and cracked, the stone
pushed aside as if the Megalith at the hill's apex has been thrust upwards from
the very earth. Black ooze runs down from the centre, draining through the
cracks and running across the stone. Rising up from cracks in the floor, the
Megalith of Doom towers above everything here, polluting the air with its foul
fumes. There are 16 Ur'Guard Grand Marshals here. There are 5 plague lords
here. A sigil in the shape of a small, rectangular monolith is on the ground. A
huge archdemon looms here, surrounded by black mist. Sitting on its haunches, a
bloodhound rests here. A hideous archdemon is here, sleeping soundly. Acolyte
Anisu is here. She wields a tower shield of twilight blue steel in her left
hand. Eiru is here. Tenqual, Neophyte of the Clay is here. He wields a twisted
staff in his left hand and an onyx throwing dagger in his right. Kaervas
d'Murani, the Ascendant Fury is here, shrouded. He wields the Tainted Staff of
Earthen Ire in his left hand and a magic tome in his right. Torturer Alger,
Venenum Celer is here. He wields a baleful rapier of darkened steel in each
hand.
You see exits leading southeast and southwest.

So the next time some Hunter comes on here talking about woe is me, tracking sucks. Please refer to this log and know the truth for yourself. Tracking can be down right awesome when it comes to defending assets. Now I just wish Celest had more active trackers to help fortify our city's defenses.
Narsrim2005-10-21 17:12:04
Oh yes, I've died to that combo more than once. I find it to be highly annoying as you are 100% dead. You just don't have time to get out of the pit before the guards kill you. It is basically unescapable death on Nil (and the same could be done on Celestia).
Shamarah2005-10-21 23:32:48
Oof, yeah, that hurts. I died once in a wargames when I triggered about seven plates and got bounced into the middle of a group of five and a pit trap.

It's a good strategy to use traps to move you to a room adjacent to the megalith, but isn't summoning into enemy territory illegal?

If you beckon someone into enemy territory, you are issueable. How is this different?

It's not an issue if you are moved from enemy territory to enemy territory. So if you're enemied to Nil and this happens, there's no problem at all.

Jack2005-10-22 01:46:29
If the person in question was already in Serenwilde, no.

Just as it wouldn't be illegal to beckon into Guards if the person was already in the Guards jurisdiction.

Incorrect. The reason you are allowed to do it on Nil and Celestia is because the guards are the Megalith/Pool are considered part of Nil/Celestia. Thus, there is no cross-border movement.

Long ago, yes. Currently, no.
Unknown2005-10-22 01:49:27
Ah, ok.

Edit: Wait a moment, this means guards can defend the Supernals/Demon Lords. Not quite as easily, but with traps and summoning, nearly as effectively. Can statues be erected at the Megalith?

I seem to remember it being perfectly okay to move someone from a village to Magnagora's guards via demesne summon (cross borders), sanctioned because it was essentially that same organization's territory, which the person was enemied to. Maybe I didn't phrase it quite as well as I could have, but that's what I meant.

You seem to be mistaken. I was told the last time I forced someone to follow me and flowed them into guards (from a village into the commune) that NEVER again was I to do this.
Munsia2005-10-22 02:12:45
If you are on nil and you say.. beckon someone into the megalith. I think you get auto enemied on the reasoning of 'bringing an enemy into magnagora' or something like that
Xenthos2005-10-22 02:13:11
The only thing I can think of is that forcing someone to follow you and then flowing into guards isn't approved... unless this is a subject that had a bit of gray area surrounding it.

Edit: Or I could just be misremembering, don't remember the subject of the thread and it was months ago, so am not going to be finding it. happy.gif

I can force to snort spores and poof them back into guards too. That's also illegal. If you would just listen: The pool/megalith on Celestia/Nil are now considered "part" of Celestia/Nil so moving someone into guards there (for example with beckon) is legal because you aren't actually moving them across borders.

If it helps to clarify, the ONLY reason you can beckon someone into guards on celestia/nil was because of this change. You can not beckon a target from enemy territory into a village/city (like from the Inner Sea into Celest). The magic barrier thingie even stops it.

I agree that traps are quite useful in certain situations, although they are *very*costly. For all the traps that Geb set off, they probably cost around 2000 gold and all of them are one-use only, except the snakepit. I think Wisp or Demesne Summon are more economical (and re-useable) when it comes to moving your enemies into a death trap. sleep.gif

Then there are other situaltions where traps are completely useless, like in an aquamancer's demesne, and easily avoidable, by flying, sprinting, etc.

Except wisp can be stopped and such. There is no way to stop spring traps. Plus, if you are defending a city with them, I'd think a city (which has millions of gold) could reimburse you every now and then for traps.... or just outright give you the comms.
