people seem to be wanting hunting grounds (i know i do) so i was thinking that perhaps this might be ok.
Imagine a zone filled with moderately difficult mobs, then imagine that someone goes in and wipes them out every time the reload. I think it would be interesting if everytime you did that repeatedly the mobs would slowly get weaker and weaker. But by leaving x percent they would remain at their current strength and leaving y percent would allow them to become stronger.
so
if there was one near... Avechna and it was constantly hunted by high levels it would slowly become only useful to novices who if they hunted responsibly could have another hunting ground. but if the higher levels hunted responsibly they could turn it into a great place for themselves.
hopefully if implemented there would be various places like this and an area not being hunted for a ic day would grow much faster that if a single monster died.
what do you think?

It would end up just like Astral: dead/worthless

Not to novices though

heh, though hopefully the idea that you leave it alone for say a month everything would become stronger. though this would lead to people going off and hunting in an area prefered by enemies

I'd suggest just the opposite in accordance with natural selection:
The strong denizens alive to breed/reproduce thus produce stronger off spring so the more bashed an area is the stronger it becomes *daydreams*

Pretty soon ratting would be better experience

Nah it wouldn't work. Astral didn't either.. I want a Darkness Falls ala DAoC!
Hajamin2005-10-21 11:50:31
We will NEVER have an area that is only for bashing.

Erk!-(my new favorate emote)
none of the above please?
We're already got the adders that die out. Seriously if we instituted this gorgogs/moors/sharks/catacombs(which makes no sence cause they're undead)/astral(which again makes no sence because they aren't connected to reality enough to be effected by something like this anyway) would all be nerfed into uselessness within real life days. suddenly Newton would be the best hunting ground out there, people would get to Circle 21 and just stop in summery, bad idea, please don't use it.

hehe, i wasn't actually suggesting the entire world become like this only a few small sections, such as a breeding ground for one animal (and no matter what you couldn't actually run them to extinction just to complete uselessness for hunting)
EDIT: oh and after i thought about Hajamins response:
Quest possiblitilies (hehe)
Comm quests for wood, perhaps that place where a villages lumberjack gets his wood from is constantly over-run by various mobs your commune/city may need to go in there and keep them under a certain level (but to be difficult) yet not below another for what ever reason.
or you have to defend an area but kill the creatures to slowly raise their level for some reason
*shrug*

want experience? let the gorgogs free and kill merian/gorgogs.

astral worked fine. its under player control. Want astral back for bashing grounds? then complain to your government about people who link near dead nodes and get the government to do something about it.

There's always more than one side to a story. Herbalists wouldn't mind fewer denizens on Astral, as we'd have a much easier time picking our sparkleberries.
