Enchantments are needed on a regular basis by a good amount of the population, and there's generally a good profit in it, if you're able to learn high enough. Trans skill is the ability to enchant a crown to reduce all your mana usage by one fourth, or one third. I don't remember which.
Tailoring is needed by all, but there are quite a large number of tailors already. Trans skill is superior cutting/blunt stats on your splendor robes.

Hm, as a novice, you probably shouldn't put any lessons into a tradeskill. You'll need those lessons for your guildskills which will help you survive. The only exception is if you bought a load of credits. And I mean a load. Most tradeskills are actually not that profitable despite the name.
Ashteru2005-10-22 18:35:00
hrm, 300 for transskill, plus additional 150 for Highmagic if you chose enchantment.
That's 450 * 4000 gold credit market price (Let's say that)
1800000 gold. Nope. I got at most a tenth off of my trade with it. At most.

Enchantment will only be of real use to you if you are at least virt in highmagic too so you can enchant mercy/perfection/kingdom.. so in short, if you don't have or want to spend so many lessons.. go for tailoring it's a good gold income.

As far as I am concerned, tradeskills are primarily for roleplay purposes at the lower levels. If you are new to the game I'd concentrate on more utilitarian/bashing skills first. Once you get a feel for your character and the setting, you will be prepared to choose a tradeskill that is appropriate for your character concept.

I have to agree. Trade skills give players the satisfaction of having a very real effect on the game world, but it's quite impossible for all -- or even for most -- players to look at them as a reliable source of income.
Supply outstrips demand here long before that can happen. Plus you never know when some new rule is going to shift the balance (e.g.: until very recently, any alchemist willing to answer the ceaseless call for refills could have customers lined up contsantly; the introduction of kegs is basically an automated assembly line that puts the little guy out of work).
If you want to min/max something, look to your other skills first. Pick a trade skill for nothing but personal enjoyment.

Umm, don't choose Enchantments, take Tailoring.
Veonira is the only Magnagoran tailor of any note anymore, and she's pretty much inactive now. Everyone seems to be having a lot of trouble finding a tailor now (though they all want them for greatrobes, so you'd need to learn to mythical).

I am partial to Tailoring for two reasons. First of all, the game seems glutted with high level Enchanters. More importantly, clothing is an interesting way to customize characters. It seems a creative person can have a lot of fun with it. 210517
I knew one gal on another MUD who made a grip of IC coin with a beauty salon and tailoring. She'd not only help with clothing but actually help rewrite descriptions. Think outside the box.

With the addition of the charging cubes, enchantment probably isn't going to be too worth it if you're not very skilled at it, because all the big buyers have their own cubes, and are less likely to be deperate for the charges enough to buy them on rings and bracelets.
When my proteges ask me to suggest a tradeskill, I recommend that they stay away from them until they have a firmer place in the world, and a steady incoming to get them started, so I agree with what Vix and a few others have said.

Plus powerstones are outrageous at the moment since everyone wants those power-guzzling cubes.
Acrune2005-10-23 06:02:17
Yeah
The only ones I could find today were 2000 gold each

I could cut some gems, I suppose.
Ceren2005-10-23 15:46:48
Enchantment is a public service skillset. Between powerstones and the forging-esque time required to enchant, you make practically no income.
Unknown2005-10-23 15:48:30
I can't find -any- tailors lately!

Not true before the cube. Not sure about after, as I haven't found any powerstones yet. I've made a decent amount of money off of it.
Kiarlea2005-10-23 22:10:50
I'm a jeweller With 223 gems, I cut 12 powerstones yesterday.
Kharne2005-10-23 22:36:09
Can you design any clothes you want? Or can everyone make the same set of clothes, as im thinking of doing tailoring to.
