Actually, I was just talking to a friend of mine about that. Bunch of people from India here on holiday walked into the pharmacy she works at - third degree sunburn.
As for aloe vera...no. I have solarcaine - local anaesthetics are so much nicer.

And this is why at midday you go have a nap in the closest shadow with the full belly after lunch.

I don't mind the pain of sun burn... its just the itching that comes later In eigth grade I got burned so bad, and after a couple days, I was trying to go to sleep, and my whole body starts itching, and if I scratched it it hurt a lot, and if I didn't, I'd go slowly insane. Aloe helped for about 3 minutes before it started inching again.
Iridiel2005-10-27 15:20:15
A litre or two of hidratant right after the sunburn, coupled with iced water to get the skin at a better temperature.
Usually works for me, the very few times I forgot to find a suitable shadow before the midday nap.

There's this little thing called Sunblock, its amazing my friend. Wear it everyday, shine or not. Battle back, keep the pallor!
Asarnil2005-10-27 18:52:32
Shikari - fresh aloe vera, where you literally rip the leaf off the bush is the single best cure for sunburn - it beats anything a chemist might whip up.
Narsrim2005-10-27 18:55:19
Actually, you want to throw in some calamine too.
Suhnaye2005-10-27 19:47:20
Witchasel (sp?) always helped a lot... and aloe...

Or just don't go outside.
For some reason I don't burn easily and when I do it doesn't do anything but tingle.. only been burnt twice. Once because I was a retarded child and stayed outside in the lake for around.. 6 hours without sunscreen and second time was because I stayed in the tanning bed too long.

All of us are remiss for not having done this earlier in the thread, and I apologise on behalf of us all.
Have you tried applying liniment to it?

i feel ya pain, i got sunburnt so badly once while i was in the army, I was almost in tears from the pain.
I ended up getting a wire brush (was brand new at the time) that we use to scrub the bores to get all the caked on carbon from the artilerry guns, which is basically a brush with nails instead of strands, and ripped the crap out of my back to get the burst skin away.

You haven't lived till someone has rubbed aloe vera leaves, spikes NOT removed, on your back when you have sunburn blisters. It's like heaven and homocidal inducing torture all rolled up in a nice neat package.

YES! YES!
Unless you're a redneck. Then get a tan, and oh god. Uhhnn. I was all over this tall redneck tonight. Unf. Pity he was straight. But he was totally cool with me cuddling up in his lap.
Anyway. Yes. Keep the pallor! Use sunblock, block the sun, AKA skin cancer.
Me da had a chunk cut out of his ear a few times. It's really gross.

I was gardening in my old job mid-December last year (middle of summer here) in shorts and a singlet top. The back of the singlet would pull up a bit when I was pulling weeds up, and the shorts curved across the waistline. So anyway, three hours of gardening, la di da. Get back the normal property (was gardening at one of the other properties) and someone says, damn, girl, you are SOOOOO sunburned. I had a big smile across my lower back like this....
_______
\\_____/
And of course, my shoulders and arms were a nice even dark red.
So if I'd worn a bikini after that, it actually looked like I was wearing a white singlet underneath it. I burned so well that my arms and shoulders are still quite a nice tan colour.
Edit: Then, of course, there was the summer the year before, where I got burned all over my ENTIRE back and thighs and calves and part of my front as well (around the neck mostly - strangely, my face doesn't usually get burned).
One of my mates sat down and -rolled- the skin off my back. So much flaky skin, it took hours. (Was nice and relaxing, though).
