Subj: Wrapping Width
You can now set your wrapping width in the configuration menu - this
determines how much text you will see before it wraps onto the next
line. The maximum value is 250, and it must be a whole number. The
default is 80, and that is what you all see right now.
To change it, simply CONFIG WRAPWIDTH. Have fun!

Interesting.

No more metagaming systems with exceptionally long names. Goody. Problems still being that really long wrap widths can look ugly. Hmm, to switch, or not to switch?
Xenthos2005-10-29 17:56:03
Well, there's a problem with triggers that had ^ and $ based on the old 80-character system, have to convert them all to the new setting.
Lisaera2005-10-29 19:16:49
Well you can leave it at 80 if you want.
As for longer wraps looking ugly: you have to find the right setting for your client, font and text size. For me, everything looks best at 140, no nasty random linebreaks, but it covers the majority of my screen and so takes up less lines.

hmm, to fiddle around with it or not...
This would reduce spam a lot if I increased the width, then again hmm, are the help files and protects changed by this? like would we see them differantally as well?

Help files won't be affected because they're auto-formatted into 80.
Sylphas2005-10-29 20:09:49
Give Projects MORE.
And for me, everything being on one line would look ugly, I've played for years at 80. I'll manage.

You're right, 140 looks better than 250. Keeping it here.
Shorlen2005-10-30 00:18:02
Anything longer than 80 is annoying, because news postings and messages and ghelps and everything still wrap to 80, so I have a big amoung of blank space at the right of my screen most of the time. I perfer to keep things at 80 and put the text documents/coding environments/excel spreadsheets I'm working with in the rest of the space.
EDIT: It's a nice feature for others, I guess, but for me, I've always formatted EVERYTHING I do in Lusternia to 80 characters, hitting enter at the end so I can use indentation and some ascii art and such. Planning for ambiguous line length is impossible it seems, since if we let the game wrap our text, we can't indent, because when it wraps, it eliminates all spaces it considers extraneous. So I will have to continue to pretend that the line length is 80 for everyone while formatting newsposts and ghelps and everything regardless of what others use.

not using the forums huh? Just kidding
Murphy2005-10-30 00:30:09

Stupid addictive things. I just avoid any topics which include bickering and whining about skills, and the entire Idiots forum.

Nothing, I thought... They just need to not use newlines at the end of every 80 characters now, and need to let the game wrap things for them, right? But I don't use illusions, so I don't know if that's true or not.

This is the death of Ascii art and good illusions, but I guess sometimes the Minority just has to suffer.

Who cares about minorities anyway?
KIDDING. Ascii art will live on!

ASCII art is here to stay.
Unknown2005-10-30 02:23:23
From what I understand, hard line breaks will still work when you change your settings. So ASCII art will be fine, and perhaps Illusions.
Cwin2005-10-30 06:10:10
If Illusions work here like they did for Snakes in Achaea/Aetolia, it's a MAJOR nerf. Illusions have no hard line breaks. Instead, you put enough spaces until the second phrase hits JUST at line 81, making a two-line quote.
Meanwhile, this comes in just when I decided to start using my Output window (thus needing that blank space on the right side). Blah.

There is another way to get the two-line illusions to work for most lengths, but me revealing it would allow people to still get around it. Anyhow, the easiest way to remove the illusion nerf is to also add in the newline function like Achaea did. That way, the average illusionist can go back to making believable two-line illusions.
Shiri2005-10-30 06:30:20
Hmm. I wonder how much this helps against people with annoying weapon names *coughTerenascough*.
