Muting

I think it would be nice if there was an OOC muting and an IC muting punishment,

OOC punishment (for being vulgar/out of character/whatever) would be like it is currently - no tells, messages, says, freeform emotes, shouts, yells, channel, and no writing of any kind.

IC punishment (like a disfavour for acting against a God's interests IG) would be less restrictive - no says, shouts, yells, tells or channel communications. But you could still emote and write, and message. That way it can be played as an affliction (no voice), but you can still find ways to communicate with others if you have to.

The IC version could also show up on GODFEELINGS or DIAG, so we can see how long it is going to last.

Actually, that'd be nice, sort of like a ego burnout, actually having as an affliction for 30 minutes or how ever long burnout lasts.

Burnout lasts for an hour I think..

If it can be cured when you get it from a mortal source, sure. But I think any permanent version would be best left as a Divine punishment.

I never bothered timing it when i lost psionics, it just annoyed the hell out if me, and eventually went away, and it continued if you lost it in a spar as well! Damn that was annoying, but yes, two mutings!

There are two kinds of mute, both are IC and OOC depending on the use.

Oh? Can you explain?

not sure about the emoting, but you should still be able to write, but then again, then people would write in the news, and that's no good.

you could always do

emote says in a low muted voice "blah blah blah, I hate god number 52"

which is something that should be prevented.

I wonder if there would be a way so they could only write -thing- at desk, and nothing else, not even messages.

That would allow them to write a book about their voicelessness, or write letters, or write in their journal and show it to people. Would be something very interesting to play out actually.

I agree with the muting, as I was affected by it once and it was confusing since it "felt" like an OOC punishment. But it resolved itself once I asked for clarification. Muting was confusing because there was nothing telling me anything was wrong when speaking, only thing telling me what was wrong was a "you've forgotten how to write".

Honestly, I think that the gods are working on how to make their powers feel more "in game". Viravain for instance has added an emote for teleporting others than the standard "you are teleported by the power of the divine". So I think some of this IC/OOC stuff will be resolved as things are added. I also think punishments should have a help file like they do on Achaea.

I do think muting can be overdone, especially since it punishes RPers more than PvPers or Bashers. However, death is so cheap in Lusternia--you can Vitae, Conglutinate, Lich, Reincarnate, or Heartstop is considered something with little consequences--that I can see stronger punishments being used as a deterent. The whole thing is, at least with Viravain's case, she was basically saying "don't talk back". After being muted, you know that I will think three times before letting Tully say anything to her. And I think that's the goal.
