A thought about making manse stores a little more accessible. How about an item that enchanters can make that functions as a portal room for a single manse?
"A ring of glowing stones marks an entrance into the Aetherways. Inscribed on one of the largest is the word PORTAL."
It would require a 'stones' item to be charged inside a particular manse's fulcrux, then embedded in the ground in a certain location on the prime plane. It would last only 12 months or so, and can be destroyed by planar unravelling.
It should probably take both time and power to set up. The initial commodity cost might also be -slightly- high.
Multiple rings could be placed in the same location, which would then allow PORTAL SEARCH to show as many manses as there are rings in the room, and only one ring of stones could be charged to a particular manse at one time (to make them handy but not overpowered by using them as easy escapes from everywhere).
Entering the aetherplaces from the stones might also be delayed, unlike entering the aetherways from a proper portal room. You could PORTAL EXIT STONES to leave a manse and return to the ring of stones.
Thoughts?

Wait, so are these like a sort of expensive portable enterance to manses from basically anywhere on prime, that anyone can use? Just making sure i got it right. If i did get it right, what would be the point, it'd just be a costlier way to enter a manse which wouldn't really be that effective except for enchanters, unless they just enchant the stone, and anyone who holds it can set it and make it a portal room?
Unknown2005-10-30 09:35:39
Yep.
A way of enchanters making a temporary portal entrance that everyone can use to a certain manse, anywhere on prime.

Hrm, but wouldn't that be kind of worthless, i mean it'd cheaper to just go, teleport nexus, walk to your portals room and enter, and would these enterances have the same thing for manse permissions and stuff, or would they be like an ultimate enterance which cant be blocked?

They're just portal rooms. They would function the same as city/commune rooms, but somewhere else on prime.
I would find them useful in a number of situations.
1) Place a ring at the Moonhart, try and increase sales because young ones don't have to search around to find the portal room (which is kind of tucked away in Serenwilde).
2) Place a ring at some place that I am always travelling to, use it as a shortcut.
3) Place a ring nearby to an organization that won't let me link to them directly, obtaining customers that can be enticed to walk just a little outside their territory.
4) Place a ring inside an organization that I want to link to, but haven't been able to supply the necessary funds/power yet.
I mean, I'd also love to be able to have them on other planes too (whoa), but I don't think that would be allowed.

Hrm, would the be un-enchantable, i mean, in all reality, placing one inside an organization could be a security risk, i mean when you think about it, Mag could get one of their players manses, get a portal room somewhere hiden in Seren and just pop in and out and raid, and you'd have a hard time trying to find out where it was.

Yeah i saw that, but since it's been enchanted, it could be un-enchanted as well, just trying to cover all the possiblities.
Acrune2005-10-30 16:50:20
Don't think so. Statues can't be unenchanted. Paintings can't be unenchanted. Dimension pockets can't be unenchanted. Unless you're thinking of rings as more sigil-like, in which case it would be kind of dumb for somewhat expensive items to instantly poof when a unfriendly mage walks into the room.

Too costly, too easilly destroyed, and too short of a life expectancy.
Neat idea though.

Well how about this:
Let Artisans make the rings, which would last a long time but decay eventually. 100 or so days maybe, think more than a ring and less than a statue. The rings could be carried around in some sort of larval form, perhaps as a bag of stones or something. That could be enchanted at a pentagram with charges. One charge = one one way ticket through the portals.
That would be one way of balancing it, because you couldn't just flood people but the costly ring item itself wouldn't be easily destroyed. Perhaps an unraveling would either distort the gate or remove some number of charges.
Just a thought.

Is that a just an easy way to raid or escape a raid?
Munsia2005-11-01 06:58:32
1: People would start using it to raid
2: We dont need that kind of spam at Mother we got enough

hrm, i think it would be good if it had a wait on both ends, also how do city/commune shops work? if they are set up permenantly and cost a bit this might be cheaper for an org such as glom (i've noticed they have what 5 empty shops?)
