When I joined this forum, this is one of the first things I did. I've heard complaints about sig's from others throughout the forum, and being unaware as to whether or not everyone knows about this option, I thought I'd share.
You can turn signatures off! Yay!
Just go to the 'My Controls' link up top, and click on "Board Preferences".
Select the 'No' option next to 'Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?'
Hit the 'Change my account options' button.
That's it!

My way is simpler. Install firefox, download the adblock extension and right click on the offending images and select "Adblock image". You still get to see the signatures you want, and it ignores the ones you hate. For example, I blocked Ialie's sig by the second day she had it uploaded - now the forum works smoothly and I don't need to worry about huge images lagging the hell out of me. Plus all the other extensions and complete awesomeness of Firefox means I never need to open Internet Explorer again.

I am a firefox user too, and I never thought of doing that.. though I pretty much am ah.. disgruntled by 90% of these signatures so it's best for me to just get rid of em all.

Signatures are the bumper stickers of the Internet. I hate bumper stickers.
Unknown2005-10-31 15:13:16
I don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers. But come on. It not like signatures are burning your eyesockets out. Some of them are pretty funny. It just seems a tad lame to go out of your way to block signatures :/
Richter2005-10-31 15:25:57
Actually, there are only two signatures that are somewhat big in file size, and that would be mine and Ialie's. Never gotten any complaints about mine yet though.
Kinda wish I had a nice animated character signature like that though.

I like Ialie's signature. Don't hate because you don't have broadband
Peeka2005-10-31 16:17:41
I have high-speed wireless internet access, so for me, speed is not the issue.
It's simply a preference that makes my time here run a little more smoothly.
Please do not start throwing flames about. Thank you.

I have DSL and speed is not a concern. I simply find signatures annoying and tacky. It is a personal taste issue and not worth making a big deal over.
Richter2005-10-31 20:30:45
I like my signature, and find it neither tacky nor irritating. It tells where my avatar and signature were made, it has a nice picture of my name, gives a map of my place, in case anyone wants to look, and currently I have four excellent gaming webcomics list.
That's usefull information!

I find all signitures with moving bits VERY annoying I usually try to keep yours and Ialie's scrolled off the screen so I don't have to look at them.

I do the same with your cross dressing avatar

Open your hosts file in a text editor -- it might be in c:\\windows\\system32\\etc\\drivers or another location depending on OS and version -- and add the following line:
img71.imageshack.us 127.0.0.1
That will block Ialie's signature image without requiring you to block anything else (unless someone else hosts images on the same site).
Sorry, Ialie, nothing personal.

to Ialie's new sig!
Narsrim2005-11-01 01:52:03
God,
Ialie just keels me. I swear, the world will be less lovely if she is accidently mauled to death by a random crazed person in the psych ward. <3 Ialie.

erk, don't say such things Narsrim, Ialie is safe, she's got a 600lb bee buzzing around her keeping her company in the ward, and she just ignores it, and tells the people admitted that they are halucinating
Narsrim2005-11-01 01:59:07
My mom was a psych nurse for years. It is actually nothing like that... and most of the people are absolutely precious and amazing people who are typically going to try to love you to death if anything.

The most dangerous place to work in nursing is ER

I don't know how nurses do it, honestly. My mom's feet were like mutilated (as in always sore and pained) when she was a staff nurse in the ER. I think a good 50% of the reason she went back for her masters to become a FNP was because her feet were like "F*ck this."
