Two ideas
Would it be possible to tweak emote so it either puts your name at the start or wherever you put me in the text
so
emote Spreading his arms wide, me chants in an ancient language asking for the blessings of mother moon
would emote
Spreading his arms wide, Healer, Saran, Dustie Nurturer blah blah blah
and
could we have Position?
it would allow you to put yourself in various positions so when someone looks at a room they don't see everyone standing or sprawled.
you could be sitting in the roots of mother moonhart or leaning casually against a nearby wall.
also no matter what you would be prone in a positioned state and you could option to change your position without sending a message so you could string together some emotes and end them with a position.
I've seen that done before when i was the "pool cleaner of pishe" on another mud.
i would mutter a prayer to pishe, get down on my knees and then procede to clean the pool, anyone who looked or entered the room would see me as cleaning the pool.
it's just something fun and roleplayey

The freeform emote, sure... it's been requested for a while. Would be nice to have.
The position, no. We'd get utter rubbish if it wasn't policed, and I don't think the admin want more work in doing so.
eg...
> POSITION is here. Fain, of the Red Masque is here, kneeling at Elryn's feet.
"Elryn is here. Fain, of the Red Masque is here, kneeling at Elryn's feet."

i guess with the position thing but the same could be said about emotes.

I think some people might forget their positions, too, and wander around for a few days or months with them cleaning pools where ever they went. Atleast I know I probably would!
The freeform emote would be loverly though I could see potential for abuse there as well.

Yes, but you can colour emotes so you can see them seperately, whereas if positions are the same as what you would see on QL...you can't.

oh thats why you would be prone any movement generally requires you to be standing so you would be out of the position

Most MUDs that have something like that position, clear it when you leave the room. Now that I have freeform emotes and poses, I can't imagine going back to not having them. The "it can be abused" thing can be used to prove that nearly everything in the MUD shouldn't be there.
Now, the MUD I spend most of my time in now has the richest free-form emotes I've ever seen. You can even mix them with speech, easily and fluidly. You can set a "pmote" that is like the position thing mentioned earlier, and you can even use "omote" to do the same thing for objects -- e.g., stick a knife into a table, then omote it so people who come into the room see it stuck into the table. But they don't let you change your own description, because "it can be abused". Go figure.

Well, you have a point there. We've been asking for this sort of thing for ages, anyway. Didn't they come up with something like this on...Aetolia recently?
Cwin2005-11-01 14:38:42
Blame Serpents/Illusionists for the lack, I think. I know that emotes alone, if worked right, can cause alot of issues to a combatant. Pmote would be a slightly slower Illusion.
Blah, that's the other thing I missed, phase and illusions. Nothing like illusioning a stupidity bite right before a doublestab and seeing them eat 10 herbs in a row and all NOT the ailment you actualy gave them.
In any case, if it's implimented, you probably will need to put some mark to show it's just a pmote. Something simple like:
pmote With her deadly tail, me strikes out at you and stings you.
shows:
'With her deadly tail, Cwin strikes out at you and stings you.
Then triggers could catch the apostrophy and ignore it. a (') would be small as well so in normal RP it probably won't be noticable.

Not really, emotes are in a different colour, and they take balance. You could use them as 100% detectable illusions now, if some silly person wanted to abuse them.
Cwin2005-11-01 14:47:52
Illusions aren't made for the player actualy. They are anti-triggers. Most systems (and some clients) can't detect what color a message is; only the words inside. As such, YOU may know that someone is emoting Aeon, but if your system catches it and goes into it's aeon cure then things can turn ugly.
As for manualists: I always thought that a pure manual player can kill a Serpent class easily, since the whole point of doublestab, illusions, hypocondria, ext, is to up the system. Of course, that's all moot since this is Lusternia.
Still, I bet the majority of people's system would cry against a few well placed emotes.

And then you issue them for abusing the system.
Cwin2005-11-01 15:19:26
Point made.
vote: Pmotes then
vote: Pmotes then
Manjanaia2005-11-01 17:39:56
Well you could make it so that anyone who abuses it has the ability to do it removed maybe.
Jasper2005-11-01 21:47:46
Perhaps we can get the emote addition posted here before we do anything else?
