Just an idea I had thought of since one of the things I don't like about IRE games is that you can never change your age. However, in Lusternia since you step through the Portal of Fate I thought it would be a good way to incorporate changing a person's age without RP going out the window. Also there is even more of an effect since Astrology has been released and some people don't like the sun sign their older character was assigned. Anyways, here it is.
Tome of Remembrance: 100 credits
- Lets you change the day, month, and year your character was born if read at the Portal of Fate.
- READ TOME
- The tome is destroyed upon being read.
I don't know if people should be able to choose their signs or anything since I don't know enough about Astrology if there are certain combinations of someone's signs changes the effectiveness of the skill. The main message I thought of could be...
Grasping the Tome in your hands you open to the first page, mystic symbols pass across your mind as you delve deeper into the pages. Reality begins to close around you as more and more symbols flash across your mind. Suddenly the symbols begin to form into a name, your name. Nostalgic memories flood your head as the Portal of Fate surges with power and you remember you were born on the of , years after the coming of Estarra.
Anyways, what do you think? Good, bad, worst thing you've ever heard of. Mainly I just want to know if there are other people out there who are as obsessed about choosing birthdays/astrology signs for your characters.

Your sun sign affects something trivial enough that it will only get used by accident (and it affects what can be used AGAINST you rather than what you use), so it isn't a problem at all.
And this was brought up a while ago, but in the guise of a fountain that actually changed age - but I think having you just reremember your age is probably better. If you can just shuffle around in the 13 year bracket you get, anyway.
Vix2005-11-04 00:50:28
Sounds good too. Just don't like the name. Isn't that in the Spectre Isle quest?
Grantaire2005-11-04 01:11:23
Astrology signs are not an insignificant detail. For a beginning astrologer like me, they are quite important. Someone paying 100 credits for them to choose what afflictions I can use against them seems silly to me. Of course, I'm not sure if anyone with more skill in astrology than I actually uses the planet rays. But it matters to me, and my mother says I'm special. Correct me if I'm wrong, but having a different birth month/year would change your signs (though I doubt Lusternia has the signs for each date recorded, a possible coding problem for this artifact)
Also, I just don't like the idea of vanity birthdays. Lusternia's elite running around with cool looking birthdays in their honors just doesn't appeal to me. It just doesn't seem like something that should be chosen by the player.

Enlighten me on what a "cool looking" birthday would be?
EDIT: Ugh, Vix you're right. I didn't know that the Tome of Remembrance was already an Honours quest.

Making yourself born on the first of a month? If you do not have cool looking birthdays in mind, then are you mostly thinking of it as a way to change one's signs?
Vix2005-11-04 01:21:24
There really isn't any "cool" birthday. And I'm sure lots of people would be happy to not have Estarra 1st/25th as their birthday as well.
Genos2005-11-04 01:23:10
People can make themselves born on the first of the month anyways if they want when they make their characters. Honestly, I choose my character's birthdays with RP significance for the most part such as numbers for different things. Only reason is that my first character wasn't born when I would like him to be because I was still rather new to the game at that point. Besides, Shiri already said the Sun sign has a minimal effect on Astrology anyways.

It's just the sun sign that is insignificant, and that's really the main thing you're changing. Very difficult to get the others done right, especially because you only have a 13 year margin to get everything you want.
And yes, people with more skill than you in astrology use the planet rays, the zodiac rays are freaking inaccurate and annoying a lot of the time.
As for the use of it, I figured it was for the whole children thing, which is why it was suggested as like the reincarnation from the portal of fate originally...I don't think paranoia about people having cooler birthdays than you (if they spend 100 credits for it ) is quite a good reason enough to disallow it!

Yeah, I guess you're right. Nevermind that then. To be completely honest, I just don't want people with inconvenient signs to be able to get out of it. Complete honesty never gets me all that far.
Genos2005-11-04 01:31:06
The only sign you'd have real control over is the Sun sign, all the other ones are fairly random. If people want to spend a long time slaving over the Astrology pattern I don't have a problem with them reaping the benefits.

When you really get down to it only their sidiak and aapek signs matter much anyway. Don't worry about it too much, you're better off with spheres. Actually, while I'm still here, I'll send off my envoy analysis for astrology to everyone who cares so that they can use those next time around. Thanks for reminding me!

No, I just have a bit of a problem with "Anorexia's getting me down, and I want to be younger. Why don't I see if I can't get a different aapek sign while I'm at it?" or summat like that.
Genos2005-11-04 01:47:21
Why would they bother buying a 100 credit artifact in stead of just triggering it to cure Anorexia? Honestly, Astrology isn't really worth it to try to get around it. Besides, there's a chance if they change the day they were born they could still have a sign that gets an Anorexia affliction.
Athana2005-11-04 01:48:58
I like this...I'd sure buy one
Vix2005-11-04 01:49:27
I might too. I want a family and not many people are old enough to adopt me.
Xenthos2005-11-04 02:01:14
What if it only allowed you to change the year, not month or date? How would that affect other astrology signs?

So yeah, we can stop worrying about that now. Yeah, an artifact to make oneself younger or older sounds like a good idea.
I have a clearly defined position. Really. You just don't know what it is because you're not cool enough.

It would be almost impossible to get any kind of useful change out of it that way, put it that way.

So wouldn't that be best, if you want to change your age for adoption? It nullifies the changing for RP, but the admin have already said they won't allow anyone to pick and choose their signs.
