I just want to make sure the catacombs entrance quest is not broken, and I'm not missing something obvious. Can anyone remember how many orcs you have to bring to the Gatekeeper before he lets you through?

I think I got to around 40 before giving up. (Well, for other reasons too )

Go to him and say 'orc'.

If you don't plan on doing the bottom quest (releasing orcs into villages), kill him for the key

I wish I could. But I imagine killing him makes you enemied to the Ruins, and hence completely unprotected by Avenger. I think I'll pass on that.

I've never said a word to him to get down below.

Still haven't figured out how to get to the second level though.

Yeah, it would really help if they were moved out into neutral territory - after all, who wants those noisy, ugly big tears in reality littered through their territory.

No, I mean giving orcs to him, not saying anything, and after enough orcs he unlocks the door. We have a very quiet relationship.
