OOC clan flag

QUOTE
CLAN SET OOC
- This will *permanently* set the clan to be Out-Of-Character. OOC clans cannot charge fees, will not show up on honours, and cannot be used in any tuning or priveleges. They may be used for discussion and communication between players, rather than characters. An OOC clan cannot be upgraded to a cartel. Note that communication on OOC clans will be unaffected by the planes, or inebriation.

Now, I hate having OOC clans at all, but if we're going to tolerate them, at least make it clear which are IC and which are OOC.

Already we've felt the consequences when information from an OOC-leaning clan is taken as being IC. I think it is important to make the distinction clear, and then any IC clan can be very definitively policed as IC talk only.

Edit:

You could even add this:
QUOTE
Commands for Out-Of-Character clans:

CLAN SET MYALIAS
- Set an alias which will be the name you use in this clan.

CLAN ADD ALT
- Add one of your alternate characters which will be automatically inducted into the clan and will use your current alias.

CLAN SET MYTIME
- Set your local time which can be queried by others in the clan.

CLAN LOCALTIME
- Determine the local time of someone in the clan, if set.

No, this would just encourage people to make them.
Joli2005-11-19 03:11:13
I'd really like this added in. I've been in some clans that will tell you they are OOC, but then you say something and all the sudden they are IC. Perhaps if they had to have the clan classified as OOC it would make this a lot clearer for people and then the clan leaders couldn't go back on saying it was OOC or not.
Unknown2005-11-19 03:16:13
They ought to just abolish ooc clans. The Saitama House, Pandas, Carnival, ect. I've noticed that they all tend to breed lots of ill-will and information swapping. Adding a flag would increase the number of ooc clans, and thus magnify the problem exponentially.
Acrune2005-11-19 03:16:14
There would still be IC conversation, but it would be more convenient to use, because of the planes thing. Don't think it'd really be worth the effort.

I'd really like people not to make them at all, but it is a stated policy to allow OOC conversations in clans.

Thus, I do not see how this is going to make things any worse. It simply means if you catch OOC talk on a non-OOC clan, you can stop it. None of this switching back and forth.
Unknown2005-11-19 03:19:49
Sure they could. Even if you set a flag, it's still up to the clan leader to make sure people don't act like jerks.

Again, my thinking here is to make the distinction between game talk and non-game talk.

Currently, you can have an OOC clan that shares IC information between different organizations, because you can't really say "Oh, that was all OOC." It wasn't, it was via an IC medium. You can argue that something passed along the Dark Carnival clan was actually passed along in game. I don't like this ambiguity at all.

This way, if something is said on an OOC channel, it had better damn stay that way. If not you can very definitively say that a breach of boundaries has occurred, and their rolepoints should be heavily docked.
Unknown2005-11-19 03:24:40
You won't get rid of OOC clans, I'm for this idea.

The admins aren't going to want to investigate every time someone claims someone else used information gained over an "OOC" channel in-game, Avaer. rolleyes.gif

They don't have to, but if we see such information going in-game, we can point it out.

It will also serve to remind those who use OOC clans that it is OOC. At the moment, you speak with your character name, and it looks exactly the same as your character speaking to the city.

This way, you can make it look slightly different, and perhaps even use a non-character name. That not only differentiates it superficially, it continually keeps the method of communication in the forefront of the speakers' minds.
Diamante2005-11-19 04:29:05
hmm, the only problem I can see with it is when you have clans that are generally ic, but there are some ooc exceptions, such as our rangers clan, where ooc conversation regarding combat is permitted
Unknown2005-11-19 07:24:56
I propose that, for these OOC-flagged clans, a slight cosmetic change should occur:

From: (Teh OOC) You say, "Lol those mags got pwnt!!!!!11"
To: {Teh OOC} You say, "Lol those mags got pwnt!!!!!11"

Slight difference, but it would help to serve as a reminder of which clans are OOC so people can't "claim ignorance" of the clan's OOC status.

My vote goes twords abolish OOC clans... unfortunately it's not up for voting sad.gif

Actually, the only people who ever use Pandas anymore is me, Narsrim, Yuniko and Yukari. Etanru is sometimes on, sometimes on but offchan, ditto with Nyla.

So, exactly what are we swapping information on? biggrin.gif

I know.. No one told me that when I joined and all my other social clans are ooc, so it didn't seem like a big deal to tell everyone I was going to go take a bath and I'd be back in a little while. At least you all know I'm clean now. tongue.gif

Hey, you could have just thought I was going to the bath house.. didn't say whether or not it was an ooc bath tub. happy.gif

Stop the OOC clans.
Seriously.
If you want to speak OOC, use tells if it's something short, ask for another person's AIM/ICQ/MSN name if you want it more in depth or permanent.

With too many MUDs already on the edge of becoming a giant chatroom, I am loathe to see each further step taken towards that abyss.

Reagarding tags, how will they change anything?
Like other people said, even if a Clan is tagged something, it doesn't mean it won't be used in a manner that goes against that tag - IC/OOC enforcement depends on the good will and responsability of all those in the clan.
