The way I see demigods, they are supposed to be something special. Like: "Woah!", that sort of special. Not only are they unique in their ability to kick an unusually large amount of ass with their stats, divinefire, thunderclap, ect. but they are also very special from a roleplaying perspective.
Here we have these mortals that have reached the very brink of godhood; as close to divinity as one can be without going the route of a Vernal God. Pretty intense stuff. When they move you see an aura of power surrounding them, as long as they have enough essence they are almost immortal, and they are the only ones capable of reaching the havens. They are, in short, pretty krazy fellas.
They won't be forever, though. In a year from now we'll have twenty demigods. They'll hold parties in havens, half the game will be able to throw up a shield of invulnerability, and hordes of would-be PKers will fall under a constant stream of thunderclaps and 25str assaults. Demigods aren't too powerful, I don't think, until we have too many of them.
Thus, I propose: abolish the 'avatar' status. Make it so that the highest anyone can reach is 100% titan, at which point they are teeting on the brink of divinity. Only when an elder god chooses you as their herald can you actually pass on to level 100. This way every god would have one avatar, they would be the only demigods, and it would actually mean something. If the number of titans and players increases, maybe raise it to two per god in order to accomodate them.

Quite an interesting idea, and one that I've thought about before. What happens when we have 20 people running around, and they're all divine?
A question I have, is how come it took three years on Aetolia for someone to hit level 100, and right now, four or so years into the game, they only have three or four? We have four demigods now, and one or two titans? Eesh.

Did I mention it was far too easy? Seriously, buff up those monsters, drop the gold give by about a quarter, leave the exp the same, but the monsters spawned need to be a random number, so that I couldnt just set my system to moonburst whenever I regain eq or a creature enters, link, and go have dinner.
(Not that I would, but its entirely possible)

Not sure about the statistics, but instead of scrapping Demigods, just move Divine Fire, ressurection, to Avatars and make it that each divine can only have one avatar at each time. Means Demigods are superoverpowered and Avatars are actually special and you wont have 10 from each god running around.
Unknown2005-11-20 07:33:21
I like this idea, good job i was worried about see to many demigods but this would solve alot of things.
Diamante2005-11-20 07:47:32
While I do not like the idea of having only one demigod per divine, (what about rogues) I -do- support the idea of moving divine fire to the avatars only. I dont see a problem with the pheonix effect for non-avatars, but divine fire should be an avatar only ability. (No Bias here, Ill be demi eventually and my god has an avatar already )
Unknown2005-11-20 08:19:52
Well i was thinking pheonix to avatar only because it takes essence right? And well Since Divine Fire is the only other thing to my knowledge that takes essence, it'd be making it so anything to do with essence would be avatar only, meaning Demigods would be buffed up titans. Not overpowered godly unkillable machines.
Ekard2005-11-20 10:28:23
Once i asked Aesyra how good it is being Demigod. She sad that bonuses on Titan are realy nice but on Demigod no, you need to be Avatar to have some nice powers.
And it cost a lot of essence for divine to take Avatar.
And when Demigod enter to room wichout shroud, you will see his aura of power.
I want Demigod, i would be Demigod of Forging if Melanchthon wont come back.

I'd love Demigods and Avatars to be more special and get more powers, rp related that is. Just some nifty things to annoy those poor mortals. But I don't really see it happen.
Murphy2005-11-20 10:42:48
I think a new type of RP god should be included, a Wannabe-god....so people like murphy can go around capitalising Me and My as an annoyance to the general population
Shiri2005-11-20 10:48:55
You mean that wasn't a typo?!
Soll2005-11-20 10:58:14
Yeah. I think Demigods should have an assortment of smaller, less combatative powers that enhance and spread their power out slightly more. They should have a massive amount of power, but spread over say.. 10 or 15 seperate powers. Just general things, like the custom shout.
Something like:
Hearing your name where-ever it's spoken, and a few words either side of it. (Someone mentioned this.) Hear God's name when an Avatar.
Being able to travel to someone in a few seconds once per IG month, with a few restrictions.
Faster general movement.
Ability to return instantly to your aligned nexus once per IG day/month. Ability to return to any aligned shrine once an Avatar, or perhaps just to a shrine that's being defiled. Might be nifty to be defiling, and then a Demigod just appears from out of the shrine, as if a Guardian-type-thing. Entourage doesn't follow.
Be able to give out just favours and disfavours on behalf of the God, when an Avatar.
Be able to bless a single person, group, or organisation which offers a small benefit, perhaps a 5% damage shield, at the cost of personal essence. Say, 5,000 essence per person bestowed upon. Last a few IG days. 'He/She is surrounded by a pulsating aura.'
Throw a mortal as far as can go, in one direction.
Seal a room from any eavesdroppers(dreamweaving, crow eye etc) for 5 minutes.
I'll think of more...

I like the shrine one for Avatar.. but I would like to see it with the restriction that you can only do it from a shrine to a shrine... like for X amount of essence - Gregori lays his hand on the shrine of Lisaera and beseeches for travel to -
-The shrine of Lisaera hums with power as Gregori steps out of it-
Now this would require some extra coding on Shrines to display a #### on shrinesight, but my understanding is Order Powers and the code is being looked at anyways, so maybe it could be added in.

I'm all for Soll's ideas only if there can be one Avatar per divine. Since if it isn't it'd be kind of stupid, they're meant to be special. Yes it takes lots of essence, but i'm sure from all the bashing one would get to being a demi, they'd have already made that up in essence from all the corpses.
Gregori2005-11-20 11:08:58
There is only one avatar per divine.
Another thing.. Avatars should be able to shrinesight from anywhere at the cost of personal essence. Maybe also add they can tell if the shrine is at full or not too.

Unknown2005-11-20 11:11:48
Was told by quite a few people that it's more then one per divine. I reckon there should be an upkeep for having one anyway, ya know the cost for keeping them there and alive.
Unknown2005-11-20 14:22:32
Instead of having actual shrines for avatars, allow someone to 'OFFER TO AVATAR' at a god's shrine at the offering will automatically go to their avatar. They would have to either decrease the essence got from bashing drastically or greatly increase all their costs, or this would make getting it too easy.
Soll2005-11-20 14:45:47
I don't think anyone mentioned shrines for Avatars. Their essence is personal, and only they can affect it. Can't see an offer to avatar being accepted.
Unknown2005-11-20 14:49:24
Ah, well I've heard it suggested before.

That's correct, it is their personal essence. If they are made an Avatar a link is made, at an essence cost more than anything else(I could probably give everyone in Celest TF's lasting for a week with out much it costs). That effects the god greatly, and can even reduce what powers the god has.
