Ugh World of Warcraft "RP"ers

my gods the players on World of Warcraft RP and RPPVP servers are idiots.

ugh i signed on to one of the new servers hoping to start an undead mage char (thinking of doing Tauren Shammy) and within the first half-hour the general chat had degenerated into various talks about how people pass around their accounts, comparing their various characters and all that.

So to beef up and arguements i did something i doubt barely anyone with a wow account has ever done. I actually read the agreement
The next page outlines clearly what is and is not acceptable within an rp server, i pointed this out to some of the transgressors and their response was all along the lines of "Well i don't want to do it that way so i'm just going to do what ever i want"

Time to post on that servers forum and beg for player moderators because unfortunantly the gms don't appear to have too much to do to fullfil all of their current responsibilities.

Aye... Its sad. saw a minute of it at a friends and asked him what about the place had anything to do with 'RP'. He didn't understand what I meant. I guess people who play that game just don't understand what immersion means.

I know, but after playing in a world like lusternia where we have rules that are enforced by really cool gods (i'm totally not sucking up tongue.gif) it's very discombobulating to go to a place where the rules are less than empty threats
Unknown2005-11-20 16:30:34
Yeah..it does suck. I tried an RP server but it was too horrible to bear.
Lisaera2005-11-20 17:30:19
I tried that once too, on the assurance of a friend of mine who is a WoW GM that their RP servers did actually have RP in... boy did I bitch her out later.

It's a shame, because the Warcraft world and story are quite compelling.

My RP server (European Argent Dawn) has some RP, not to the level of lusternia, mostly in Stormwind city and the Horde cities.
At least, people yell a bit to the idiots that try to start a talk about computers on general.
But sadly, if the gamemasters don't enforce it, they won't get farther than that, a bit of RP and tons of OOC chat.
PVPRP are the place where the OOC kids went to PK RPers and laugh at them when were asked why were they killing people without any reason. No RP there because they're full of idiotic pink haired gnomes saying "LoLz", but I do hope thye improve or they'll just become a PvP server like any other.

I didn't expect much going in, so I wasn't disappointed. Well, until I saw someone try a random tiny bit of roleplay and get sworn at. Other than that, I figure it's either just as bad as a normal server, or a teensy bit better.
Saran2005-11-20 17:59:13
yah i played through warcraft III just to get some background for my characters. though thats not saying much when my friends who are bigger fans refer to the leader of the orcs as being the leader of the undead.

Though i would like to start a full-rp guild called "The (location) Tribe" (can't descide on where) with the various positions being traditional tauren figures (The elder, the hunter, etc) hehe it would be fun to play the tribe social structure the Druid Elder, the kodo hunters, etc. oh and in inspect if done right it should appear as "Kodo Hunter of The Bloodhoof Tribe"
Sylphas2005-11-20 18:04:54
The main problem is, WoW is not a game that allows a large degree of roleplay within the traditional forms it is played. I really don't see how much roleplay you can get farming instances for loot or questing for levels. In Lusternia, immersive RP interweaves everything. In WoW, you get some quest flavor, and the rest you kind of have to put the game on hold in other aspects to get any real RP going.
Ashteru2005-11-20 18:14:00
well...the highest level is 60 or something, doesn't sound so terrible much. They could just RP then.

Only offering sone solutions there, not saying that I didn't RP before 60.

Oh another forum someone pointed out that WoW does have a active group of RPers. It seemed that a dwarf had ran into two dark elves in the midst of digital love-making. He posted screenshots and everything along with his funny commentary. In the scene he even RPed along being "in the bushes taking care of his own business."

Its a bit old, but when I peeked into the WoW boards, it seemed like it raised a big stink. I have to dig through my favorites to see if I have a link, even it is old its was reading it was terribly funny!

Don't bother. Trying to RP on an MMORPG is completely futile. Even if the GMs wanted to crack down, there just aren't enough of them.
Manjanaia2005-11-20 20:30:19
You get a similar experience with Guild Wars. Damn Lusternia for making me appreciate RP so much mad.gif
Unknown2005-11-20 20:37:15
Yea, that's why I love MUDs. If I want graphics, I'll go get one of those consoles.

I took a look at that Xbox 360 yesterday - pretty nice. The guy who worked there told me that they were going to be sold out until Janurary. So, looks like I may be spending my dollars on Lusternia instead. Hello trans Jewerly!

Raezon2005-11-20 20:38:01
Yeah, I let that poor WoW subscript expire and the collector's edition packaging is collecting dust. There's some future mmorpg's that hopefully will live up to the "rp" portion of their genre.
Sylphas2005-11-20 20:38:56
I basically play WoW because it looks pretty and has better bashing than Lusternia. Sadly, leveling my druid doesn't kick Sylphas up to demigod. sad.gif
Saran2005-11-20 23:12:46
hehe I love the logical problem that druids create ingame.

for those who don't play there is a section of WoW aparently only available to druids called the Moonglade all the npcs can be understood by both Tauren and Night Elves yet if a Tauren tried to talk to a Night Elf they wouldn't understand.

Ahh the magic of Npcs
Sylphas2005-11-21 00:50:07
No, everyone can get to Moonglade, it's just that Druids can teleport there at level 10, everyone else has to get through level 50+ zones around it.

And it's annoying as hell on a PVP server, because it's a contested zone, and the first time I went there for bear form, a Tauren twice my level tried to jump me. Good thing the guards beat his ass before he had time to get off more than a root.

Eww. Most honourable druid players won't attack each other within the glade though. also i've never seen anyone else in the moonglade and it's kinda disappointing to hear that a level mainly designed for low leveled players is so close to a high level place.
Murphy2005-11-21 08:04:32
yeh i'm on the RPPVP twisting nether server, its not too bad. I mainly chose it because I hate leetspeakers and people with horrible names (like ipwnzor)

Its not too bad but i'm not in it for immersive RP
