Just a thought: why dont we make a new guild called the Technomancers? I mean think of it, "technology saffishintly advanced is indistingwishable from magic." to quote someone whos name i've forgoten. If a new giuld is made whos members can create and use devices with powers similer (but different) to magic, then we may have something. we could even give them a crose between forgery and enchantment as a trade skill, creating technological devices for selling and making robotic allies.
any thoughts?

once you do that, you can handle me a high powered techonorifle and some sniper bullets, instakill from range

I think it'd be cool to have techonology play a part in a Magic realm. Doesn't Imperian have something like this?

I'll be in on that as long as I can get pre-massive-nerf weapons that I can artifact.. smile.gif
Shiri2005-11-21 10:36:27
It doesn't have that, it has like...fans and stuff. Nothing of the kind of technology this refers to.

This is probably because A) We have magic instead, and cool.gif We haven't got any of the preceding technology we'd need to design or even consider this kind of technology for.

So. Not really.

Bah, you peoplke need to look at the facts before talking

My weapons still fit under current nerf guidelines

which means that yes...hammers like mine can still be forged if you're very very lucky and persistant

Yeh, and in a few years we can build tanks, and nukes and have a few WW's and eventually make super cool robots to fight for us. Then we can rise up against the gods with our overpowered weapons of mass destruction and rule the world, and eventually kill ourselves off in a nuclear winter.
Saran2005-11-21 11:07:58
why would we need to develop technology in lusternia. Most technology is based around some need or other but we have magic that fulfills most of our characters needs what we can't conjure (or whatev) has probably been developed by need

Just call me the murphinator

Yeh, we just need to make the napalm first so we can burn Serenwilde to the ground. We can stick it to novices and send them on suicide missions, running around the forest to targets to start a massive fire. happy.gif

Why use technology when you have.. MAGIC! Solves all your problems way better!

For some reason I've come to the conclusion that, at a certain point a society has the choice beween two ways to develop: technology or magic so to say. Basically they can choose to understand everything with logic (as we have it in RL) or you can do everything with intuition. Thoughts? unsure.gif

And thus why I think Technology wouldn't fit in Lusternia. sleep.gif

It is possible that a blend of magic and technology could be effective. In Piers Anthony's books the Incarnations of Immortality (or something, can't remember exactly the series title...) the world is a blend of both magic and technology. Yes, magic can do things that technology can not. However, magic has boundries and rules that technology can surpass, and vice-versa. One example they have is mass transportation. Its possible to teleport and the like, but its very difficult magic, and thus fairly expensive. Magic carpets are possible, but who wants an international flight on a magic carpet? Pretty cold. So, they have airplanes. Its really quite an interesting blend of magic and technology.

Technology in Lusternia, though? I don't think it would ever reach the level of aptitude that is evident with the commonality and power of magic here. The limitations on magic aren't as stringent as they are in some other fantasy worlds. The transportation example, for instance, dosen't hold, as just about anyone can teleport with a fair amount of ease.

Yes! Create this techno guild, and then the Communes will be forced to align! Muahah -is really just stretching now for a Commune alliance-
Aiakon2005-11-21 15:45:17
I've really don't like a mixing of the genres like that. Maybe just a personal thing, but I'm not a fan. I remember being really disappointed when I read Janny Wurts' Circle of Fire trilogy ( blush.gif - can't believe I'm admitting to this) and found out she was doing just that. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, you can't mix science and magic without curdling.

No it can't. The best rapier that I got after about a hundred or more reforgings came to be about 40/200/220. Yours has at least 220 precision with that much speed. Yeah, it's possible to reach 200 precision, but to get past that with at least over 200 speed is impossible nowaday. You just don't want your hammers to be changed even though Roark recognized that those weapons weren't meant to be have such combination of speed and wounding. rolleyes.gif
Asarnil2005-11-21 16:28:18
And the influx of this new technology can cause a huge war on the verge of destroying the basin, when all the mages of the world united in one dreamweaving effort where they create Sin and then we can have a Sin vs Kethuru showdown (though Penance vs Kethuru would be nastier - hardest FF boss EVAR!)
Richter2005-11-21 17:00:36
Bah, too cliche.

Also, how can we have technology without the technology to develop it? You have to have a horse drawn carriage before you think up a car, and you have to have bows and arrows before you think of guns. Also, we'd need factories, which would take hundreds of years to develop the things to make the factories!

We already have magic, technology doesn't really have a place within Lusternia (contrary to the moving gears logo on the website tongue.gif ).
Unknown2005-11-21 17:19:01
Why make factories when you can manufacture the parts and put them together using magic? But I do agree that too much technology isn't good for Lusternia. Another realm, yes, if it is built from the ground up on the premise of Magic and Technology working together to achieve bigger and better things.

And what about the Matrix?
Unknown2005-11-21 17:21:06
The Matrix is part of Hallifax. It won't get released for a good while yet.
