I was traveling through Mag the other day and I had a burning question to ask. This got me thinking - what if somehow I could talk on the city's channel?

Here are my thoughts:

The ability is only temperary - maybe about 10-15 minutes.
It can only be granted by someone in a city leadership position.
It's removed as soon as you leave the city's bounderies, its revoked by a leader or the time runs out. Whichever happens first.

Think this may be useful?

well, what would be the porpuse of it?
and some people might not know there's a visitor to the channel, and might say something of importance on it...

That's one reason I figured I'll post on the boards to round it out or throw out the idea completely.

At the time I thought about it, I figured it would be more of a convenience, but not really a necessity

i see this being used for spying, though if it was non forceable and came up on logs it would be easy to trace

Maybe as a skill if they create some sort of spying thuggish badass archetype (which I have some loose ideas for and just can't stop constantly thinking about how neat could that be).

Doesn't seem that useful to me. It'd only be used when the city/commune itself is being raided and your allies want to help. Unlikely situation. They can always use a clan anyways.

Now, to find a clan.

i would think something like city/commune visitor talk (cvt) could work for this, keeping it off the main channel and if something important is said well to bad, though you could "accidently" pass on info there (i.e announce your raiding somewhere wait for the defenses to go up and raid somewhere else)

I think this would be an awesome skill in either environment or discernment.

I would change it however to be 3 power for every statment you say on the channel in the area you are in.

so it would be like.. Aetherwave Ha! I'm in your town, where is your store to buy food?

And you would see (Glomdoring from an intercept) And then you get to hear the next few responces said on the channel based on how much power yo uspent. So it could cost from 3 to 10 power.

Actually.. that sounds useless. Why use 10p when you can just yell?
Or ask your own org or ask others in a clan..

because you can annoy them like this...or goto mag and start preaching the light

People arn't always exactly in thier city so you can yell and still get no responce.

If your rogue, you may want to announce yourself if your peddling wares or have made yourself a bard that goes from city to city and wants to gain attention.

There are many reasons people might want to use the skill. Why use 3 power to teleport when you can just walk?

I personally think that twemporary aetherwave access is a brilliant idea, and whoever came up with it should be given some kind of prize for sheer awesomeness.

Temporary access would be useful if someone from a different city/commune was helping out in a raid/defence/whatever.

A city visitor channel would be cool! Then all the visitors could speak to one another, attempt to get the attention of someone in the city, hurl a couple of insults therefore starting a fight... etc. Of course, you could BAN someone from using your CVT if he started being an ass, such as screaming OOC stuff.

Tsaephai, why do you assume that if i were to get temporary aetherwave access that I'd misuse it? You think I don't know that misusing said access would guarantee that I'd never have such a privilege again? Just because I like to drop cakes on people for the sheer purpose of annoying them doesn't mean I would abuse the ability to talk to people in Magnagora in Glomdoring. Although this is purely hypothetical, as in the extreme off chance that such a thing were implemented, I doubt that the people of those places would allow me to get anywhere NEAR their aether.
