I need some help with some things I am writing. I'm trying to describe a sound. Have you ever watched a fantasy movie/anime/whatever and a character gets turned into solid ice or rock. It usually makes a weird sound and that's what I'm trying to describe. I'm stuck! This is what I got so far:
"The soft sound of crystal forming" or "The slow crackle of crystal forming"
Neither is really doing it for me. The first seems like saying "This is the sound of a bird singing" instead of "The air is filled with the flowing melody of a bird's chirping." or something like that. The second is better, but I don't think 'crackle' is the word I need. Anyone have any suggestions?
Maybe we can keep this thread going for other questions? I know there's a bunch of writers here.

I'd be glad to help where I can.
