You get these on seemingly every new character that comes into the system, about 30 completely random messages. I think something needs to be fixed for privacy issues?

Edit:

Please accept these 75 credits as a personal thank you from the Lusternia
Staff."

Woo??

I've heard about tons of newbies getting those. There has even been one getting messages about receiving credits for guiding and another got spammed by a ton of system messages and messages about outguilding, ect.

I think the explaination of it is that there was another person that suicided with the same name, so all the messages that they had are still there. Something along those lines at least.

When a character is created, they're assigned a number within the database that stores the character info. (This is why you can declare by number.) When a character suicides, the system resets the information that is stored in that persons entry, and that number becomes open for use again. When this occurs, that number will then be replaced by the next person who creates a character instead of placing a new character in an entirely new entry at the end of the database. However, the system does not seem to reset messages when one suicides, so the messages stored in that number of the database are allocated to the person who fills that in. Confusing?

Abc is in slot 5 of 100 in the database.
Abc suicides.
When Def goes through character creation, instead of becoming entry 101, he fills in the almost-empty slot 5.
Def is then able to access the messages stored in slot 5.

Atleast, that's how I figure it works. It may not be coded that way, but the outcome is similar to what's described above.

That makes sense, apart from another confusing fact. I have messages quoting random channels sent by...my character...the one with the messages.
Soll2005-11-26 14:43:38
Khai? And who did you send the messages to? Try honoursing that person. Is he/she still around? If not, maybe you stole his slot. If so, then I'm as confused as you. tongue.gif

i'd have thought soll's answer also, but what you said is really really confusing huh.gif
only thing i could think would be that it has something to do with your ip? like maybe when someone starts there's two files created, one for their stats and things and one for everything they say, and it just got confused because there was the same ip twice for that file or something?
i don't know, i know nothing of this type of coding. wacko.gif

Probably:

Old-Khai send a message old-(character now with the weird messages that induced this thread)

Khai then took the number of the person who sent those messages, and so now when the system searches for a name for that database reference Khai is put in its place.

It should... but sometimes it screws up. It's somewhere on my list of things to fix.

Something rather spooky about knowing i'm likely playing a character with the same name as an old one. What if he was an idiot sad.gif

It has nothing to do with name, it's number. Every character has a number, which gets reused if you are deleted. It's actually impossible to reuse an old name, anyone that gets past level 21 and is deleted(in anyway) has their name auto blocked. This was added a long time ago for RP reasons... which was sparked by someone who thought it would be funny to remake a very important person minutes after they suicided.

Heh, i still remeber when Aether suicided, it wasnt funny to lose GM and guild clan. We had to put another 500k to buy new one.
Arix2005-11-26 19:17:53
Ah good, it's nice to know that if I ever suicide, the name Arix shall live on, as nobody will ever be able to use it. I wouldn't want some newbie tarnishing the proud name of Arix. *shudder*
