OMGs i love this game.
i'm just up to the 15th chronicle i have a 40+ saint though when he hugs his tonfa it kinda ruins the image (i mainly use the soul of talim with him), my Dancer is mad fun *giggles* i generally stick with her soul of Xianhua. And the Ninja is strong with her katana and shuriken.
hehe so anyone else have it yet, if not but you've played II the souls let your custom characters use the abilities of the built-in characters.
Oooh and i love my lil' thief i've tried to make her look innocent and all that with about 8 knives worn on belts around her body while she wields the ring of Tira or Wave swords

I was the best in Utah in Soul Calibur II for a while. Then my apprentice passed me up and kept going. So technically he's the best now.
I'm a Cassandra player primarily, though I was fairly skilled with Ivy as well back in the day. My friend is a brutal Kilik player, and my final friend is a fairly skilled Xianghua player. I'm the worst of the lot now however, haven't played in a long time.
As far as SC3 goes, well, it's fun to play. Very buggy though, so we don't take it seriously. Cass isn't a trap character anymore so she's not as powerful, though she did gain some stuff I like. Ivy is completely different as far as execution goes. Kilik was weakened a bit with the loss of one of his stances. My favorite thing about the game is just the ability to make our own characters. One of my buddies made this really cool looking female assassin that uses the Soul of Tira. My own character is a Saint wielding the Soul of Zasalamel. It was also interesting making KOS-MOS in the game, since all of her equipment is present if you play the game long and hard enough. Type X gear in case you're curious.
I'll never be good at SC3 alas, unless Namco goes and fixes all of the bugs in the game. We'll see, we'll see.

Soul Calibur III is an RPG? Huh?
Unknown2005-11-30 23:00:39
...uh...no, not quite. There's this tactical adventure mode wherein you create a custom character and put them through the game. For some stupid reason they decided that characters in Chronicles of the Sword would have levels, thus making your character absolutely gimp anytime you fight someone important/known. See Ivy on the map? She's only level 65 compared to your level 10. Makes the fights kind of stupid, especially as Soul Calibur 3 has psychic AI syndrome.

I was so looking forward to this game, but having gotten it, it is kind of disappointing. I love the new characters (haven't done much with creating my own), but the AI is a bitch, and it just seems to have a whole different feel to it then SC2. I'm sure at least half of that is because I'm so used to the GC controller, but even on my arcade stick, it's just odd. When I get some friends over to play with, I'll see how it handles there. My main problem is how they tweaked the damn characters.

Talim feels fairly much the same and she would have been my best character in II but my favourite throws right now are Zasalamels back "throw" and the katana and shuriken forward A+G throw.
ahh Zasalamel grabs them slips his scythe between their legs then slowly pushes them down on it with a foot.

Zasalamel is awesome. I still like Siegried (2nd costume) with a Flamberge better, though, for coolness.

I think Maxi is my favorite from 2, did they change him much?
Sylphas2005-11-30 23:45:24
My friend loved Maxi. I hate that Elvis-looking bitch.
Daganev2005-11-30 23:48:26
Then switch costumes Or are you just talking about the hair? I've never looked at the hair...
Oh, and how does the game have pyschic AI syndrome when its a fighting game? Maybe it just learns your patterns?
Me no see elvis.

No, it kicks my ass right from the start. I'm not that good, so that's part of it, but it's more things like every attack you throw out being blocked and countered with a combo that starts to suck really fast. And it's uneven too. I find Abyss far easier than Mitsurugi, for example.

Psychic AI syndrome as relates to Soul Calibur games is pretty simple. It means that the AI will turtle perfectly until you use a move that leaves you with frame disadvantage, then punish you mercilessly for it. If you want an example of this, play SC2 on the hardest difficulty and watch yourself die.
There are varying amounts of this, but it isn't so much the AI learning your patterns as it is the AI blocking more and more frequently no matter what you do, breaking your throws, and generally being a cheating little batch.
AI is a bad training partner anyway, as it will train you to do things that will get you killed in tournaments. I only play the game against friends exclusively, and even then that's only one of them due to the fact that he's the only one to pick the game up. The rest of us don't like it enough to buy it with all of the problems it has.
As for Maxi...well, he's pretty much the same. He's had a few more options added to his basic strings (mostly kick options) as well as a change to his basic BBB. On a side note, I've always hated Maxi players. They're the Eddy Gordo players of the Soul Calibur universe. Mash the buttons scrub, I'll squish you in due time. My Ivy was used almost exclusively for noob crushing. Worked like a charm, heh.
Oh and yes, Siggy's second costume is awesome. I really like what they've done with him. I didn't realize he's so short though...he's like 5'6" or something.

Heh, thats about right. Eddy Gordo was my favorite to play also. However in my defence, I've only ever played the game in the arcades where you have to spend 50-$1.00 per life, and well I wanted to stay alive as long as I could. Also, what I like most about them is the rhythm of gameplay, and the smoothness of thier animations. Its more like watching a dance then anything else. I also found I never had to learn code combinations but rather just moved the joystick and hit buttons that felt the most natural, as apposed to the the Ken and Ryu Shariuken type motions where your moving the stick in directions that just don't make much sense. (i.e. I never had to go online or go to the bookstore to look up and memorize combos)
