Torc Idea

A quick idea for torc in the nature skillset:

-first the torc must be summoned using NATURE TORC SUMMON, and it comes with a low amount of mana.
-Then the person with the torc has to NATURE TORC CHANNEL which will cause a constant drain the owners mana and put it into the torc until out of mana or stopped. The torc will have a max amount of mana allowed in it
-the torc will not decay unless it runs out of mana
-when full, will provided the same magic defense as the torc currently does. As it reaches every tenth percent (i.e. 90, 80, 70...), the added defense will be reduced 10%. When the torc reduces magical damage, it will take a certain percent of the enemies mana cost from the torc, which will also decrease as the torc begins to run low on mana.
-when in the 90%-100% range of being charged (much like the magic defense), it will reduce 50%of the mana cost of any skills using it, and the amount will be reduced much like the magic defense

Not sure about the percents and whatnot, but I just thought it might be an interesting idea. Probably being a little overoptimistic with it, but its worth a shot. biggrin.gif

It's not really necessary.

And the torc doesn't actually produce any magic resistance anyway, heh (despite what it says.) Even if it did it'd only be 10% or so, so it wouldn't be feasible to work like that.

Besides which, 50% of mana cost...that's something even a transcendant enchanter doesn't get. Not a good idea all round really.

I woulda liked it better if it acted as a sort of mana resevoir, so that during battle the wiccan would be able to call upon an almost limitless amount of mana.

It...does that. "5000" is almost limitless given that it only costs like 250 mana and one eq to completely renew it when you're out. And I do notice when I'm missing it.

Moondancers already have insane magic defense. Don't make them invincible to it.

EDIT: Meh, misread your post.
Saran2005-12-04 05:16:45
i'm still waiting for wiccans to be able to hand them out and if who ever they were created for is wearing/wielding it a coven lead by the creator could instantly summon them.
Sylphas2005-12-04 06:41:57
50% mana reduction? Wiccans would be unkillable by Wrack, Absolve, or Toadcurse. They wouldn't have to worry about bleeding. We already have +1 regen from Drawdown (Nightkiss too?), Perfection and Sprite (which stack on top of regen), and a point of int from Drawdown to buff our max mana. Torc is already 10% mana reduction, and Knowledge blessing increases our max mana even more.

I've never had to sip my mana vial since I went Moondancer again, and doubt I ever will, unless someone is actively trying to Absolve me. Besides that, I have basically unlimited mana.

And that's without being faeling/elfen and having both extra intelligence and regen (and sip from faeling.)

We can give torcs to other people? Or am I reading this wrong?

You are reading this wrong, Saran was suggesting an idea based on the histories.

Not that I've actually tested that though, it might indeed work (only for the mana reduction, not the summon.)

Which would be so cool. think, an instant summon ability. hehe

And we already have conclave, and people complain that that's overpowered. (mostly because it was bugged and working through distort but.)
Saran2005-12-04 07:02:33
yeah i can see us putting up covens sending in a teleport target (cause flow wouldn't work sad.gif ) then pulling them out again

Hmm - I do remember this is NOT the same torc which is being described on the thread. The torc which was given to Lolly was supposedly a different artifact - Shiri, have you forgotten the idea which Merloch had tried to create a scrying pool? And to build such a pool, we might need the torc?
Saran2005-12-05 06:12:41
I believe it was golden but i do remember there being a coven for it.
so the coven creates a torc for someone?

This gives me an idea - what about an artifact Torc that can be given out, stores mana, and allows the Torc owner to summon whomever's wearing it?
Shiri2005-12-05 09:21:19
What would actually be nice is something like...if the person was wearing the torc a summons by the owner wouldn't FAIL DUE TO THEIR SUMMON RESISTANCE.
