So Diamante and I decide to go a-running to kill some guards in Acknor. Its not something I do often, and it ended in an epic battle involving Diamante, myself, Keshnor and Daevos.
I had DEFENDed Diamante.
Keshnor tried attacking us inside Acknor, but we didn't kill each other. Diamante and I got a couple guards and left.
Daevos and Keshnor show up shortly after and proceed to try and beat the snot out of us. Combat ensures. I slay Keshnor. Keshnor gets status on me.
Now, here's the thing. I didn't declare Keshnor, not once. He must've auto-declared when we were in Acknor. He chases us out, attacking us. We fight back. I never once declared Keshnor, I was specifically only going to defend.
So, how the heck did he get status on me for killing him?
I don't get involved in this sort of thing often but I'm starting to understand why people are complaining about the Avenger and PK status. I'm happy to send the log to someone to look at - from us entering Acknor to me slaying Keshnor. But why the heck are they getting status?

Psh, screw guards, just slaughter all the villagers. It's easier, Magnagora doesn't seem to care as much (or else there's just no one on when I get home from work, which might help), and more fun to show the orcs what furry vengeance is like.
Of course, lately I've felt too guilty to actually do it anymore. -eye Nymerya-

You still managed to completely miss the question

As I understand it, defenders inside of home territory are automatically defending and will not gain status for attacking or killing raiders. Now, once you guys left Acknor, I suppose it carried over. Not sure.

When you attack guards it auto-declares all members of the city the guards belong to, the same way that defiling declares all order members.
