My idea is to put in a new value on the stat table, fitness. I mean, if you look at the way things happen, most magic users should, by rights hardly be able to walk across the basin.
what I suggest is having fitmness on a rate on 0 - 100, and depending on how fit you are, it effects how quickly your fatigue runs out. Have the current rate of fatigue loss be about at 50 fitness, and have it so that when you are 'unfit' the fatigue runs out quicker, and when you are very fit, it hardly runs out atall.
and have it so that your fitness increases as you walk and do physical things, like punching and bashing physicly.
it'd just make it a better RP experiance

As long as fitness only changes during online time, I'm happy. That is, I don't want to log in and find myself at 0 fitness just because I cannot play as much as the rest of you.
Unknown2005-12-13 22:25:32
true. and before anyone asks, yes I know it would give warriors an advantage, thats trhe point. warriors are supposed to be very fit, that doesnt meen magic users cant, if they want to. My character, A nihilist has taken to bashing rats with a mace to keep fit

Who's to say that channeling mana from a completely different plane of existence isn't physically taxing? While I don't pretend to know the magic system theory of Lusternia, within my own worlds at least it's almost impossible to be a 'fat mage' due to how much focus, concentration, and effort go into the simple act of casting spells.

Before you think I'm acting biased because I'm a Guardian, I'll say right now that I spend an inordinate amount of time walking around the basin, particularly within the mountains (which by all rights would keep me pretty fit, considering how difficult hiking is).

I'm going to vote Nay on this one.

I hated the fitness stuff in GTA: VC. I didn't like that I got fat/skinny based on what I ate, or how much I did, and that it affected the way I played.

I hate sleeping and eating enough, thank god I got lv 80 back.

I agree with that last guy. traveling around the mountains would keep someone fairly fit, especially if you were to circle the entire basin. Also, I fly a lot, and it takes a lot of upper body muscle to keep a human sized creature aloft, even with hollow bones.

For one thing, concentarting isnt gonna give you big muscles, and Hiking, i;ve already said is going to feture in fitness as well. say for every 500 rooms you traverse, you get one fitness point.
Arix2005-12-13 22:44:09
bah. I'm fit. that's good enough for me. I say nay to the fitness rating
Acrune2005-12-13 22:46:09
I don't like this idea, because any person with a guild or city position that involves talking to people, they'd have to just go out and run laps around the mountains or something, or be totally distroyed when they have to do something like village influence. There's also the probability that there would have to be racial balances added in, because a dwarf isn't going to be able to run as far as say, an elf. Might have to consider how much you're carrying, too. I don't think it'd be worth the time to make considering all it would do is inconvenience most of the people in the game. That, and I don't want to be overweight and lazy IG too... tongue.gif

Fitness doesn't just mean having big, bulky muscles, it's more just keeping in shape, and I think this idea might be too time consuming for the admin to implement. There are so many factors that go into fitness level. I carry around a heavy keg does that make me stronger?
Diamondais2005-12-13 22:50:13
Hm..enough of us worry about weight and fitness enough in the real world, perhaps here we can forego having to do the same here. Sure, most of us do a lot of walking, hunting, flying, etc. But the environment and time frame we live in is a time when people just cared more for survival than looks, didnt matter what you ate as long as you ate sorta thing.

edit: And more than half of us walk around with mountains of items in our hands, and wear tons of jewelry, clothing, armour, etc.

Does sprinting make me lose weight?
Unknown2005-12-13 23:48:25
Only if there is a corresponding stat added in, Senility. And while magic classes have an easy time keeping their minds from atrophying, warriors can work at it if they choose.

Dreamweavers have a max fitness of 40, and lose it at 5 times the speed. ninja.gif

Actually, doesn't warrior's breathing do essentially this? I thought warriors used less endurance than non-warriors based on that skill. Especially since it mentions preparing for a marathon workout.

Nonono. Ok, bad idea.

In a world of perpetual youth and beauty, keeping 'fit' doesn't really mean much anyway.
Genos2005-12-14 00:05:00
Meh, we have Endurance and Willpower. That's enough for me.
Shaeden2005-12-14 02:14:30
Most people already do walk or ride across the basin. I mean Druids got to do all that forest crawling stuff, Monks always go on pilgramages, Aquamancers swim, Geomancers have to dodge their own earthquakes.... Even just walking around to all the shops would probably keep you semi-fit. Maybe not marathon fit, but you wouldn't be a sloth, that's for sure.

We have monks now? blink.gif
