Was talking to a friend of mine and we were talking about the types of furniture you can have in your manse when the subject of fireplaces came up. Had at first thought maybe an artisan ability to make these would be nice, but then both agreed it would be more fun to have them as one of the housing upgrades that you can put into your manse and costs credits, much like the chessboards, chests, astrolabes, etc. The fireplace could serve an aesthetical function sort of like a campfire. You would put wood into it and light it, occasionally having to stoke it to keep the fire going. Only difference would be you get no sort of regen from it...just for looks and environment.

I agree! Mostly cause I am the friend!
Although I still think it would be cool as an Artisan item as well. It shall be added to my envoy report.

I think that having it as an Artisan item that works like a campfire when lit would be cool. I also like the idea of artifact fireplaces that burn constantly (Which aren't sold in the artie shop as a fireplace - it's magical wood or something, which you put in your Artisan fireplace, so you can have a permanently lit fireplace that is your favourite design, or a custom-designed one. Of course, that magical wood would set the fireplace to non-decay.)

Yes, give artisan more things we can build, i am all for this! Go Artisan, Go!
Well it can work, since they would be able to be designed, and i assume instead of actually doing that, you would be able to build them in any indoor location, and have the whole fire thing, and -maybe- have it, if a person is sitting in a chair in the same room as the fire, they get a endurance regen.
If not with the endurance idea, it always gives me something else to design.

I wouldn't want it to act like a campfire. That just takes away from the hunter's skillset. Make it an Aesthetic item, not a skill degrading item.
Verithrax2005-12-16 14:45:10
A fireplace isn't a campfire. It allows you to make a campfire indoors, in a room equipped with a fireplace. I don't see how it downgrades the skillset.
Unknown2005-12-16 14:57:20
I like this idea, as an Artisan ability so you can have your fireplace look however you want (assuming your Artisan will custom design it for you). But I like Verithrax's idea of artifact wood that burns constantly too. And I agree with him that having a fireplace in your manse wouldn't seem to be downgrading any abiliites...especialy if the campfire can't already be used in a manse. I don't have that Skill, so I don't know, but it seems implied that you can't.

Fireplace with a campfire effect = good.
It won't take away from the skill anyway, because no one sets up campfires in my manse. I don't see how that's harming anyone.
Also, it's not like you can set up a fireplace anywhere outside of a manse.

How about a manse artifact that increased the rate that you lost insanity.
Unknown2005-12-16 17:23:15
Fireplaces shouldn't be mobile, for obvious reasons. And expensive to make, and require the same amount of wood (three) as a campfire to light, and last for the same period of time. A manse arti should also make it perm lit - like a magic log or something.
Then it really will just be a manse and guildhall thing.

That would work perfect for a fireplace! The soothing, relaxing, homey flickering of a manse-fireplace helps calm the insane mind, and speed recuperation....or, it could bring to mind images of burning demons and flaming hells, driving you even further into the irrevocable depths of madness...nah, lets stick to HEALING the insanity.

The manse artifact should give the same level of willpower/endurance regeneration as having both willpower/endurance gems, and cost the same as buying one of each. Essentially, make it just an aethetic change from having both gems in the room.

We could have multiple types of artifact wood for fireplaces for regenerating endurance, willpower, or both - same cost as the gems.
Penelope2005-12-17 18:14:47
Meh, I didn't want this to turn into a "it should have endurance/willpower regen" post. I just thought it'd be nice to have a fireplace for aesthetics and no other reason since there are other things that can do all the regen.
Ekard2005-12-17 21:01:26
I like this idea for fireplaces in manse. I'm sure Catarin would like it in our manse too. But if it would have same effect as gems. then i dont know.
Make it wichout any effect fireplaces are just cool! add them to Artisan!!

i'd like it if you could either buy artifact or artisan logs that when added to the fireplace change or add an effect to the fire, like absinthe treated logs to aide dreamweavers. or other such things.
Ixchilgal2005-12-19 12:03:32
It needs to have some sort of benefit, otherwise it doesn't really add much to the skillset.
Artisan is already full of "nifty but useless" things as it is. It needs more stuff that have a point.

That is so true, i mean, there are some nice things in artisan, but i doubt anyone would actually buy furniture for anything besides it's effects. Well besides me, since if i ever get a manse, i'm going to make it a bar, and stock it with all my bar furniture i've been secretly making. Got a stool and smalltable so far.
