Should one community die...

Back to Common Grounds.

Okay, I was thinking about something.

Someday the two forgotten cities will come back. However, there is definate concern about the player base being two small for it. There is also a desire for the new cities because some players are hoping for conflict that's less "black and white" and dealing with simplistic "we hate them".

So, I had a theory.

If the admins create an event that totally destroyed one of the three original communites--either New Celest, Serenwilde, or Magnagora--as part of the event that brings back the other two cities--do you think this would be something that would help justify the new cities.

The reason I ask is that it could bring up some drama. Some would leave for another community (maybe the new ones), others would probably try to keep their old classes--a Diaspora of sorts. It would also create some shades of grey for those affected. One community would lack their opposite viewpoint, thus making alliances more complex.

The bad thing is that this would piss off some players...but perhaps this would last only 1 real-world year and there can be a quest to eventually raise the city like Glomdoring. It might also shake up some of the Eunii in the players who miss the early days and have become a bit jaded for their own good.

Any thoughts?

Yes. I'd be the first to give up on Celest for Hallifax. tongue.gif

By 'No', it means it will not happen.

Yeah, I can understand, there's a risk of upsetting the player base. Still, I just wanted to see what the other players thought about that.
Vix2005-12-26 22:38:10
Problem with that is that there are people in the destroyed city/commune - people who have paid money for credits. To be forced to either change class or go rogue is not good business tactics.

What the hell kind of idea is that?

Well, Priests were discarded in Aetolia... it was still just a guild though.
Marcalo2005-12-26 23:34:27
and replaced with the lumifaries who were more rp wise corrupt then the priests ever were supposedly. But i would agree with celest getting nuked for some other city.
Unknown2005-12-26 23:40:31
Or Magnagora! Or Glomdoring! Or Celest!

No. I'd hate it. Why? FAR too much effort and story has gone into all four of the current orgs for them just to be nuked for Gaud or Halli.
Penelope2005-12-27 00:14:58
I have a better idea! Instead of Celest, Serenwilde or Magnagora getting destroyed we should destroy Deepnight to bring back one of the two cities. evil.gif whistling.gif
Vix2005-12-27 00:18:18
Why is no one mentioning destroying Glomdoring? *eyeshift*
Unknown2005-12-27 00:21:49
Because Glomdoring is cool?
Diamondais2005-12-27 00:22:32
Destroy Glomdoring! Or Seren! Or how about none?
Arix2005-12-27 00:43:21
how about we nuke Trader Bob? Nobody would miss him....

I chose to ignore Glomdoring because it was the one created a year ago based on player action. Note I said "original three".

Just so you know, the plan would be for it to be destoryed but ressurectable--maybe a small tent in rubble with Meleris or Adrak or Miakoda. Sort of like how Glom was in the beginning.

You wouldn't have to give up the RP--Maybe a new city would allow one to keep the old archetype with a penalty, and perhaps some make the hard choice of sticking with the old archetype in different cities and being in exile. Think of what happened to the Jews when Jerusalem finally fell, or Gypsy nomads, or refugees from wars, or immigrants from another country. It's also an idea to prevent people from becoming Jaded about the status quo--"Remember when things were new Lusternia was fun" are complaints I'm seeing too much today.

If I had my choice, I would choose Serenwilde or Magnagora, because the former is really big and has a lot of different philosophies, while the latter is so darn organized nobody would expect this to happen.

But I understand why people would think this might be too radical. I was just trying to get player reaction.

Unknown2005-12-27 01:20:48
Gonna go with no there too.
Diamondais2005-12-27 01:21:54
Miakoda is the Spirit of the Moonhart if I remember correctly, no Mother, no Miakoda.
Ardrak..I get the odd impression his life is based off the life of the Megalith. Dont know why, I just do.
Meleris..er..why destroy another Celest?
Brennan (I know you said origional three but Im giving a reason why this shouldnt be) the Ravenwood was already destroyed once, we dont need to destroy it again.
Really, theres just no point, three of the four organizations in the Basin right now have been destroyed or changed completely. So, just allow the cities to come back on their own. As they will eventually when the Admins are ready OOC or the quests complete themselves IC.
