This is something that has been bugging me for some time. I have been wondering why races such as Trill and Viscanti don't have a racial language, when practically every other race does. (except humans, who don't need one)
comments? opinions? random ranting?

I can understand why Viscanti don't, but not Trill.

My theory about the Trill Langauge:
The Trill originally roosted in Hallifax with the Ludcidian, but when Hallifax fell the Trill scattered about the rest of the basin. They don't have a true home anymore. I wouldn't see them all as having their own language when they dont all live together to develop their language. The Lucidian have their own language because they were around before the Trill and were smarter, so it took less time to construct their own langauge.
Viscanti:
They aren't a true race. They're just tainted mutts. Heh.

Viscanti are all the races pretty much mixed together, I dont know, you might be able to exclude a one or two in there.

I'm fairly sure Common is the racial language of humans, and the rest of the Basin adopted it for some unexplainable reason
Diamondais2005-12-30 00:04:25
Um doubtful at that because in the histories everyone could understand everyone. And its not because they knew every language. Common was probably something already there.

You could have the Trill share Lucidian and rename it Hallifaxian or something.

Aiakon was in the middle of writing a book about this.. and then other things became more important and I put it on the backburner. Naturally, I've now lost all the work I've done.
I was arguing that Common was very close to the original Human tongue, but the human tongue was different - perhaps something like the 'Elder language' (help 4.15.1) except even more anglo-saxon-esque and less middle english. The Humans were the race that managed to breed with just about all the others quite happily.. and settled everywhere - because they didn't have ancestral basin homes.. it makes perfect sense that common would most closely resemble human.

The Trill didn't roost in Hallifax, they helped build it. Theres a difference. It's not like we were squatters or something.

oh yes.. I remember now...
the other thing that confused my book was that the Aether language is universal... so I argued that the Trill had never needed a language because they could communicate by Aether, and that perhaps they had never evolved one initially like the other cultures (in a pre-ether society??) because of their bird-like larynxes and mouthpieces.

I'm sure that'll get implemented. While we're at it, why don't we destroy Celest to make way for a fourth orga...
Nevermind. You all have wonderful ideas.

I mainly started this thread because my IG attempts to get answers to my question went unnoticed. however, that being said, carry on with your comments and ideas.

Wouldn't make sense considering humans are supposed to have appeared in the basin when Estarra came (read help humans...)
