Since both the alchemist and enchantment trades rely entirely upon accessing powerstones which are becoming rarer and rarer to find, why not allow jewelers to cut for them specifically?
GEMCUT (gems) FOR POWERSTONE takes twice as long as normal cutting, and has a 33% chance you will get a powerstone, and a 66% chance of getting an inert crystal commodity.
This way, we can continue to use our trades even with figurines taking up a great proportion of the powerstones available for use.
Oh, and if anyone has seen a powerstone for sale, I'd really like to know. I'm a trans alchemist that can't make his own refills.

How about boosting the stats of cutting one a little? Would that be a tad easier on the Admin? Or is this just a no full out?
Gregori2005-12-30 06:02:58
Since when is a Powerstone a requirement for an Alchemist? Powerstones are a boon for Alchemists not a neccesity. If you choose not to use your trade because of no powerstones, that is not the fault of a lack of them.
Diamondais2005-12-30 06:07:10
Still, they are needed for the newly made figurines which are all the rage currently. Powerstones are good for Alchemists and Enchanters because there is a limit to how much you can draw from your Nexus. Having them around helps the City and Communes. But probably dont bother the Admin too much.

Erm, surely you aren't suggesting use personal power reserves?

I am not arguing the need for powerstones in Figurines. However, I don't think we need -more- powerstones. I think they should be rare. I think they should cost alot to get. If this makes Figurines harder to get, great! Let them cost alot too. Trades should be making everyone money. There is very few of them that this can be applied to.
What I dislike is blaming the lack of Powerstones for not being able to apply your trade. This is false. You do not need to have a powerstone to enchant. You do not need to have a powerstone to refill vials. If you choose not to apply your trade without a powerstone, that is your choice. However don't make it seem like a powerstone is a requirement to perform your trade.

I always thought that powerstones were meant to be like Spices and Sugar, and Mercury are meant to be, rare as hell, very hard to get, not a screwed up alchemizing, picking, or burning coal, but a rare find, something special, not something that it's meant to be common like salt.
Unknown2005-12-30 06:53:07
In that case, the goal is realized.
Hajamin2005-12-30 08:21:09
Not to mention you can use USED powerstones for figurines.
Shorlen2005-12-30 12:53:04
Try convincing an enchanter to use personal power reserves for enchanting 15 suits of greatrobes - that's what, 1,000 personal power?

And if powerstones don't get cheaper, I bet you could add enchanters to your list of rare finds

But now powerstones aren't going to sell to anyone not wanted a figuring, unless you're one of those people who can charge 60 gold a enchant with a straight face. Also, I've had enchanting jobs with 500+ charges. I'm not going to drain 1000 power from the pool for that. Its annoying enough having sigils take from your reserves.

SImple Solution
Just add powerstones to the type of gems that you can sometimes cut multiples of

Then they'd be powerpebbles

Enchanting needs tons of power. Alchemy doesn't. Took me about 3 weeks to even realize my powerstone had run dry.

Took me about 4 pocketbelts for me to realise my powerstone didn't have enough power in it to do another one. There goes 50+ reserves

It would be nice if we could have more powerstones in the economy, but the price should eventually go down when figurines become not so fun anymore. The price dropped down after cubes became old news too (though not by much). If we're willing to wait about 10 IC years, maybe you can get cheaper powerstones.
And Elryn, I thought you were a Serenguard?
