Yesterday, to my great amusement, I found myself in charge of Magnagora's defensive forces. It's not that I didn't want to lead them, per se, I was just caught off-guard by the fact that I actually was doing so.

It began as usual. All was quiet. Then, from the darkness, two pages of Nil spam. I did as I usually do in such circumstances and screeched for everyone to get to Nil, "NOW, DAMN IT!". I pursued 'CWHO' with great vigor and saw no Daevos, no Kaervas, no Murphy, no Torak. Oh, dear. We were in quite a pickle, with Nil being almost entirely flooded and only one Geomancer around at the beginning.

The handful of people that had hauled themselves up there were throwing themselves into Yuniko's (I think it was Yuniko's) summon trap and getting picked off at an alarming rate. It bore a disturbing similarity to Celest's defensive strategies. How quickly we go to pieces!

"Well," I thought. "I guess someone has to organize this." So, I did what seemed appropriate, and began ordering everyone to follow me. All of those with enough experience to know that I absolutely cannot fight ignored me and continued to run around until they were killed. Eventually, however, I had a fair-sized group together.

"Okay, they're following me. No one told me what I'm supposed to do after this." I felt a bit stupid just gawking, so I started to run around and squint a whole lot. Eventually I caught up with Drago, the only Geomancer present, and got him to come along. We made a few runs for the pits (only break points) and started to pry away the enemy's grip. It was slow going because Drago kept running away to taint on his own, and people were constantly leaving or rejoining the group. Not to mention the constant scrying and windowing which made it nigh impossible for me to move without losing two or three people. We couldn't attack them directly, of course, especially not in their demesne. With Narsrim and Malicia in there, among others, we weaklings were little more than fodder.

No high-ranking Fain followers were around, so the 900,000 shrines up there were just chilling and looking pretty. Apparently Raezon isn't allowed to have shrines in the primary section of Nil. After awhile of this, the raiders began to drift away. I'm not sure if it was because Drago had managed to retaint most of the plane or because they were simply out of things to kill; I guess the latter, because they could have retaken it without much trouble. We didn't even have any illusory terrain up.

So, yeah, that's how it all went down. Partially my inexperience at leading in combat, partially everyone's unwillingness to follow someone who isn't the God of PK, and partially our simple overall lack of strength. Was an interesting experience, at least.

Wow, just like usual raid on Celestia.
Tobias2006-01-08 22:31:17
Heh.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I hate that you mentioned the shrines there. It wasn't an attack on the Order, Worldburn should not come into it in my opinion. Then again, It's happened before and will happen again so I don't know why I'm not used to it yet.
Joli2006-01-08 22:41:58
Reminds me of when Joli got put in charge of influencing. I thought I did pretty good, considering that I've never done anything like that before...

You mean like when Lisaera's followers would worldburn in Faethorn during the around the clock conflict that used to take place there?
Morik2006-01-09 01:19:23
Hey, the important part is you stood up and fought. Now you know what its like when you're up against a really well-organised and entrenched whorish force.

Yeah, we did that once, I didn't like it sad.gif Shrines aren't supposed to be offensive, dang it >_< Well, in my opinion.

Exactly. I don't like any of it and I did not say that only Fain's followers do it. For reference, Laneth is not a follower if Lisaera or any other divinity.
Malicia2006-01-09 01:59:34
I see nothing wrong with using shrines to defend a territory with some sort of connection to any particular divine.

*shrug* It seems to devalue what should be a religion in my opinion, but oh well.

Dear Quid,

While your opinion seems logical, logic doesn't apply. Worldburn comes into play any and everytime it is viable and someone has the ability.

And that's why I worship a warrior god, who said things like:

GET YOUR ASS TO A SHRINE NOW! I SAID BURN!!!! BURN THEM ALL!!!!!
Unknown2006-01-09 12:40:01
As Malicia and Narsrim said, shrines are weapons, unless they're obviously being abused in a major way there's no reason why they shouldn't be used as weapons.

The only reason why orders are not worldburning their shrines on a daily basis is because a) it consumes rather hefty essence afaik and cool.gif as soon as shrines are heavily involved in combat, they usually get taken down by the opposing force, and defending shrines is... well not so much fun and rather tedious, from what I remember. Narsrim is free to disagree, of course tongue.gif (Malicia isn't ninja.gif)
Unknown2006-01-09 12:57:31
And that's a reason why Laneth will probably never join an Order.
Narsrim2006-01-09 13:57:26
Well, Elcyrion doesn't give His Order any aggressive shrine attacks so technically, His shrines aren't weapons.

No, I can replace the essence, but worldburn costs 50% of your willpower/endurance, which is a pain to recover. That's why I don't burn as often...

Well I was trying to look into his order more, but none of his Winds (lol) or whatever he calls them is responding to me, so whatever. Elcy is not responding to messages either.

If you got the same amount of msgs that I do, you'd have some slip through from time to time as well. If you're interested, talk to anyone mentioned in clanhelp urynmal. If they ignore you you need to tell me so I can beat them with a large stick.
Unknown2006-01-11 22:08:05
Two or three of them have ignored me, that's why I messaged you. Heh. I'll try to find you with tells on some time and let you know then.
