I was role playing with Soll a few minutes ago, watching him trying to make perfumes from flowers. While I watched him, I started to think that maybe this could actually work.
Alchemists could create perfumes and colognes from flowers. These perfumes or colognes could be used as an influencing booster, such as the druid's ability to influence easier in their demesne. The way to negate this would be to use a smell based attack i.e., skunk totem to spray the target and make their perfume or cologne suddenly be overwhelmed by the smell of the stink. Or the person would remove the cologne by bathing in a water source.
This could also be used as an additional Herbs ability. Herbalists could harvest herbs that alchemists could mix with the flowers to give more powerful scents, such as sage/rose, tulip/kafe, et cetera.
What do you all thank?

Gets my thumbs up.

The idea I had of this was to create something of this effect, but moreso of a weaker, SUB-tradeskill that could be selected beside Herbs or Alchemy, allowing you to train to Master in Perfumes(maximum), but would stop you from going further than Mythical in the main trade you choose.
However, I would quite easily be able to make enough things for this to have it be a to-Trans skill. I feel it would work better as a complementory skill, though.
It would go as follows:
o One type of scent per flower.
o One effect per scent. (Not atall combat related.)
o Only one scent can be worn at a time.
o The scent would add a line to your description, along the lines of: "The rich scents of rose and sage waft merrily around him/her."
o The scent can be nullified by targetted gust, skunk, or cleanse(lowest priority cure.)
I have more details available, if people do consider this worth exploring. Particularly since I already am, IC.

I don't think it needs to be a whole tradeskill or sub tradeskill, it can just be something like the miniatures or other items that require more than one tradeskill to be made.

With the number of scents, it wouldn't fit just as an addition. There are 16 types of flowers(5 types of roses, lilies, sunflowers, 3 types of tulips, snapdragons, iris, orchids, freesias, carnations.) Considering one type of scent for each type of flower, and then that mixing two flowers together would result in a more desirable smell...
I imagine there being ~10 scents.

Or more foul...

I think it would still work as an addition. I think it depends on whether the admins plan to introduce sub trades I guess.

Everyone who passes by, leave a thought!

I'd actually thought about wanting perfumes for whatever reasons last night. I just wanted them to make my character smell good. I think that I mostly thought of it because of the skunk spraying madness with Gwynevere last night that had me laughing my butt off.
Arix2006-01-12 00:10:42
quite frankly, I think it's a brilliant idea.
Arix enters from the west, smelling like kafe.

More stuff for alchemists = yay!
Verithrax2006-01-12 00:16:49
Great idea. Although I think "Arix walks in from the west, smelling like booze" would be fun, too. It might make it harder to scent people; instead of sensing someone's smell, you'd sense an indeterminate amount of people smelling like Kafe, sage, rose, or whatever.
Soll2006-01-12 00:18:33
That's something I'd like of skunk. Instead of blocking them entirely, it'd just be 'You make out the stench of skunk spray.' This way, you know someone is there, but not who, or where.
Altering in/out messages with a scent is something I had thought of too. I believe that would be quite incredible.

Keep Roleplaying the creation of perfumes.. I'm sure something will come of it.. just don't try to dictate what that -something- is.
Also, don't forget to mention that you will be doing so in the plots board

Or you could ISSUE ME to just let the divine know what you are doing and see if they want to play along.
Daganev2006-01-12 00:53:28
oooh, much better idea on the ISSUE ME, hadn't thought about that

I think it would work as an addition to Arts, or something. Not as a new tradeskill.
But yeah, keep going, see what happens.
Edit: On second thoughts, maybe bookbinders could use the extra crafts... pressed flowers and all that.
