Novices asking for help in Newton

Day after day I see novices on CT or GNT asking for help on the quests in Newton Caverns. If you are one of these people, stop. The point of quests is to figure them out on your own. Stop using CT like your own personal help line. If you are stuck, try turning HINTS ON or asking for a hint on the NEWBIE channel. Make those Guides earn their wages.

Eh, I don't know. I -totally- agree that it shouldn't be used as a personal help line, but I also understand that sometimes you just get stuck. If you're going to ask, it's best to do it on the NEWBIE channel, yes, but you might just not get a reply there. I don't know that asking for help is absolutely evil, though I definitely do think it has been overdone as of late.

But to be fair, I think that a lot of the responsibility lies with the people who are -giving- these hints to novices. Don't just toss commands at people, but if someone is genuinely stuck, just give them a push in the right direction. The smaller the push, the better.

I don't think that needing help on a quest is all that bad, but help should be given and received responsibly -- ask little (if at all), and answer little. Just my thoughts, though. :: Shrug ::

I always give tiny pushes. Usually the "that's for you to figure out!" one tongue.gif

The game will not survive without novices. If they ask for help, give it to them. Don't start off spoon-feeding them, but if they really cannot work with the hints you give them then you can be more obvious. Or, yeah, direct them to a guide I guess.

From the stories I hear, I'm glad I was turned down every time for guideship hide.gif

Yep. From what I've seen regarding novices and guides rules, I really think they should be paid more or given free psicological assistance.

Guide: CooLKiLleR tells you "Why do you say my name is bad? You're nobody to judge! This is a game and I am here to have fun! I am issueing you and telling the admins!! And you'll hear of my lawyers!"

I usually offer them to call in an admin if they feel the need to discuss it with a higher up, that works surprisingly well. The "I want to speak with the manager" thing works both ways tongue.gif (or at least, in a properly run company, it does)

Every now and then I get a random novice asking me how to do stuff. I pride myself in subtle yet helpful hints. smile.gif

Hints on works wonders. It wasn't there when I was a novice, but I tried it recently on an alt, and it's great.

Not every quest has to be solved by every novice. You don't have to be all OMGWTFBBQ U CANT ASK 4 HELP U N00B! with them, but there is definately a point where you just stop talking.

I'm talking about the Newton/Smoke Mountain quests, not the others. I didn't say guide them to the honours line but with those quests in there I see no problem wit helping them along and spoon feeding them so that they get the gist of what the rest of the quests might be like.
